Things to do in Albanian Riviera
Beaches
Ksamil Beaches: The white, sandy beach photos you see of Albania are likely of Ksamil beaches, right across from Greece's Corfu island. Plazhi Bora Bora and Plazhi Ksamilit host beachfront clubs and bars, so get ready for some great nightlife and party vibes here.
Sfageio Beach: A bit further north along the coast, Sfageio Beach sits alongside the town of Himare. The water is pristine and the beach is made up of tiny pebbles that feel like gritty sand.
Gjipe Beach: If you're up for a bit of adventure, drive to the Gjipe Beach parking lot and then hike down about 20-30 minutes along the cliffside to make it to this secluded slide of paradise. The water is crystal clear and bright blue and you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas to lounge about in all day.
Bay of Grama: Another far-flung beach, this one is only accessible via boat from a nearby town, such as Himarë or Dhërmi, but is a favorite. It's small, but doesn't get too crowded given how you access it, but be sure to bring water shoes, as the beach is made up of smooth white stones. If you're feeling adventurous, you can climb along the surrounding cliff faces and jump into the stunning water.
Borsh Beach: If you're looking for a wide beach to spread out with the family or friends under a couple of umbrellas, this is the place for you. Like the rest of Albania's beaches, the water is unbelievably clear and blue, and you can spend the day here swimming, sunbathing and sampling Albanian cuisine at the nearby cafes and beach bars.
Villages
Dhërmi: Not only does this charming village boast some fantastic beaches, but is worth a visit for the unique architecture, religious structures and cultural influences of Albania and neighboring Greece. Climb up the cliffs to get a phenomenal view of sunset over the ocean.
Gjirokastër: Not quite on the coast, but you can't miss a stop in the hilltop town of Gjirokastër, on the slopes of the Gjere mountains. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Gjirokastër is a captivating blend of history, culture and stunning scenery, offering well-preserved Ottoman architecture and stunning views.
Sarandë: Another beachside town with stunning waters, Sarandë has a rich historical heritage and vibrant, lively atmosphere along with many shops and restaurants. It's easy to hop on the ferry and be on the island of Corfu in under 45 minutes as well!
Attractions & Things to Do
Butrint National Archaeology Park: Located by Sarandë, Butrint is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases well-preserved ruins of the ancient city and lush, outdoor adventuring.
The Blue Eye: This cold natural spring is perfectly clear and unfathomably deep — we still don't know the depths! From the top, it looks like a mesmerizing blue eye that goes down as far as the eye can see. If you're feeling adventurous, you can take a dip in the chilly waters!
Gjirokaster Bazaar and Castle: In Gjirokaster's hilltop Old Town, you'll see the colorful bazaar where you can pick up souvenirs, and you can visit the castle fortress for some sweeping views of the mountains and valleys.
Boat Tour of the Albanian Coast: A must-do while on the Riviera! You'll get to visit less-visited beaches, all equally stunning and be able to swim through the cliffside caves with a guide.
Places to eat & drink in Albanian Riviera
Balbi 34: Great, authentic Italian food near Sarande beach viewpoint.
Bar Restorant Korali Ksamil: Beachside bar and restaurant in Ksamil offering views and fresh seafood.
Beshiku: Albanian style "fast food" with a Greek influence, offering delicious doner and gyros.
Pasticeri "Delight": Pastry and dessert spot in Himare's main area.
Angelo's Souvlaki & Grill: Low key, locals' souvlaki grill set atop Dhermi's cliffside, where you can enjoy incredible gyros while watching sunset over the ocean.
ELEA Restaurant Himare: Greek taverna with a mix of Albanian and Greek dishes.
The Barrels-Te Fucite: A dreamy, vineyard dining location with local food and wine near Gjirokaster.
Rrapi Restaurant: Authentic Albanian cuisine in Gjirokaster near the bazaar (a favorite!)
Elinikon: Lovely little ice cream parlor in Gjirokaster.
Taverna Mouzaki: My favorite Albanian taverna set perched atop the hill off the main road from Sarande to Himare. The views are stunning, the food is amazing with both Albanian and Greek classics and the service is so friendly!
