Curator’s statement

Sweden as a destination is not only perfect for individual travelers but also families. The community and culture of Sweden is unlike any other place. I was welcomed with warmth and never felt isolated from the people. Sweden feels like a home away from home.

Things to do in Sweden

Moose time!

  • Ice bath culture: Swedish people enjoy swimming in icy waters and hopping into a sauna after. Not only did I get to immerse myself in the culture, but I also got to enjoy time laughing and fueling my body with them.

  • Moose safari: There are multiple locations around Sweden that have moose parks, where you can drive through a forest surrounded by moose. It is a beautiful place to drive through and enjoy nature.

  • Stockholm ice bar: This ice bar is located in Hotel C and is a great way to enjoy a drink in a bar made completely of ice. The chairs, cups, and walls are made of ice!

  • Castles: I love to visit the castles, specifically the castle located in Kalmar, Sweden. This castle is located right next to the city of Kalmar and on the Baltic Sea. It is a true beauty and oftentimes has events going on inside the castle.

  • IKEA: I know this sounds silly, but Sweden founded the first IKEA and therefore it is a fun activity to do. Not only is the IKEA huge, but it’s so cool to say you walked into the first IKEA ever built!

  • Bird-watching: Sweden is situated in the Baltic Sea and is a perfect place for bird-watching. It’s a peaceful and beautiful thing to do.

Places to eat & drink in Sweden

Taco Bar, where you can get a mix of everything

  • My favorite place to drink is Espresso House. The vibes inside are spectacular, the croissants are delicious, and the drinks are superb.

  • One of the places I love to eat is Pastavagnen Kalmar. This place is casual and simple but has delicious pasta dishes.

  • The third place I love to eat at is Taco Bar. They serve tacos, burritos, nachos, and more, all full of immense flavor.

  • Another one of my favorite places to drink is OAS Café. This café is located in central Kalmar and has some of the best espresso drinks.

  • If you’re looking to grab drinks with friends, I recommend swinging by Krögers. Krögers is a pub/restaurant/nightspot where you can go to have fun and enjoy some good food.

Need to know

My biggest recommendation for Sweden is to utilize the train system, especially the train that travels to Denmark. From Kalmar to Copenhagen, Denmark, the train lasts about 3.5 hours and it truly is a beautiful, extraordinary ride.
