Curator’s statement
Tucked along the Adriatic coast, Montenegro's Bay of Kotor is a place where mountains plunge into glassy blue water and medieval towns feel frozen in history. Travelers come for its quiet beauty where you can swim, hike, and dine all in one perfect day. The region is an unspoiled gem for those seeking a Mediterranean experience off the beaten path.

Day 1: Arrival & Kotor Cable Car

Forza Kuk at the top of the cable car
Only a 90-minute drive from the Dubrovnik Airport, the Kotor Bay of Montenegro is a beautiful area to explore. Once you arrive and check in, start your adventure by seeing the bay from the sky. Take the Kotor Cable Car up for panoramic views of the bay. When you are ready to descend, opt for the alpine coaster for a thrilling ride down. Enjoy a spritz and small bites at the top of the cable car at Forza Kuk. Make sure to time your journey for sunset to take in the stunning views as the sun sets over the mountains.
Day 2: Old City & Sveti Stefan Beach

Sventi Stefan Beach
Get up early to explore the old city of Kotor, a medieval walled city dating back to the 15th century. Go before 10 am to avoid the cruise crowds that can overwhelm the small city. It is worth heading back in the evening to have dinner at Scala Santa, the oldest restaurant in the area. If you find yourself there on a Saturday, the local farmers market offering local fruit, vegetables, and olives makes for the perfect place to pick up beach snacks. After taking in the history of the area, drive to Sveti Stefan Beach. The beach is home to an island monastery with orange terracotta roofs, offering a beautiful contrast to the blue waters. Spend the afternoon in the sun, swimming and enjoying local seafood.
Day 3: Kotor Bay & Perast

Perast from the water
Spend the day on the water enjoying the protected blue waters of the Kotor Bay. Visit the Lady of the Rocks Church, the Blue Grotto, and historic submarine caves. Enjoy lunch out on the water at a local oyster and mussel farm. Visit Perast, a town best visited by the water as only local cars are able to drive through. Enjoy wandering the historic streets, take in the best views of the bay from the clock tower, and finish your day with traditional Perast almond cake.
Need to know
Don't forget to stop at Kraken Wine Bar, a casual wine bar floating in the Kotor Bay. The wine is stored deep down on the floor of the bay where the pressure and temperature perfectly age the wine. Watch your wine get pulled up on crates from the ocean floor while you enjoy small tapas and a swim at this off-the-beaten-path wine bar.
