Things to do in Oahu

Tours:
I highly recommend the BYOB Sunset Cruise along the coast, which averages about $60 per person. This experience offers breathtaking sunsets and the chance to spot whales, all while enjoying a lively atmosphere enriched by your favorite beverages. Plus, the incredibly welcoming staff provides delicious snacks to enhance your enjoyment during the one-and-a-half-hour journey at sea.
For thrill-seekers, the Waikiki Atlantis Submarine offers an exhilarating 2-hour subversive expedition. Complete with fantastic photo opportunities on the lower deck. However, it's worth mentioning that this experience may not be suitable for those who are claustrophobic. If that's the case, the one-hour Waikiki Beach Glass Bottom Boat Tour provides a wonderful alternative. Allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the ocean from above the water. With tour prices ranging from $40 to $200, there's something budget-friendly for everyone!
Kahanamoku Beach is a fantastic destination for families. Along with the sandy white beaches and crystal-clear blue waters, visitors of all ages can enjoy several stunning swimming pools at various beachfront resorts. It’s especially worthwhile to take a short walk to the Prince Waikiki to experience its incredible infinity rooftop pool. The views are absolutely breathtaking. And if you're there on a Friday night, don't miss the spectacular weekly fireworks show — it will undoubtedly evoke memories of childhood 4th of July celebrations!
Entertainment:
Attending a luau is an absolute must, especially for first-time visitors to Oahu that really want to embrace the culture. During my recent visit to the Diamond Head Luau, I was captivated by the exquisite buffet-style cuisine and top-shelf island drinks like Daquiris and Mai Tais. The event showcased high-energy dancing, stunning fire performances and opportunities to take memorable photos with locals. All contributing to an unforgettable experience.
Nightclubs/bars
Here are a few well-known nightlife venues popular among locals and tourists on the fun island of Oahu:
Aloha Tower Marketplace: Offers a variety of dance floors and bars, complemented by stunning night views of Oahu.
Hula's Bar & Lei Stand (LGBTQIA+ friendly): Full of character, this bar features nightly themes and occasional drag shows.
The Republik: A vibrant nightclub known for live music performances and an energetic dance floor.
RumFire: Located at the Sheraton Waikiki, this sleek bar specializes in rum cocktails. A Tequila Sunrise paired with a Hawaiian sunset is a must-try.
Sky Waikiki: This stylish rooftop bar offers a great atmosphere with live acts or DJs, expertly crafted cocktails, and breathtaking views of the city and ocean.
Club Rox: Designed for a younger crowd, this themed nightclub is trendy and plays today’s hottest party hits, ensuring you’ll dance the night away.
Places to eat & drink in Oahu

Breakfast
Hau Tree Lanai: The name immediately caught the attention of my partner and me, so we decided to give it a try. The staff was incredibly laid-back and consistently checked to ensure our accommodations met our satisfaction. They certainly did, as we indulged in the extra light, fluffy pancakes, along with bacon and eggs. And, of course, since we were on vacation, we had to wash it all down with bottomless mimosas!
Lunch
The Tropics Restaurant & Bar: The Tropics is the perfect Kahanamoku beachfront spot for both families and couples seeking to relax and savor the Hawaiian ambiance. With its casual, open-air dining setting, the restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere where you can enjoy a refreshing drink alongside a diverse menu. Choose from delectable options ranging from double bacon cheeseburgers and chef salads to fresh, delicious seafood.
Steak Shack: Sometimes we're in a hurry, even on vacation. In that case, stop by the Steak Shack on the beach walk for a quick and affordable dining option on the go. They offer garlic shrimp, grilled chicken and steak with rice and salad dishes. While it may not be everyone’s top choice, I make it a point to stop here every time I visit Oahu. You might find yourself doing the same!
Dinner
AOKI: This contemporary teppanyaki restaurant delivers an unforgettable culinary experience centered around fresh Japanese cuisine. Complemented by quality and friendly service. Each table is equipped with its own grill and chef, who skillfully prepares meats, vegetables and fried rice to your liking. The atmosphere at AOKI is more social than you might expect. Making it easy to connect with new friends from around the world while enjoying a dinner filled with laughter and adult beverages from the full bar. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying a meal, AOKI offers a lively and interactive dining experience.
Empire Steak House Hawai'i: One of the best, seared, mouthwatering filet mignon cuts I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying was served to me at this establishment. Paired with a steamed Maine lobster tail and drawn butter, it truly left me in a state of bliss. Additionally, Empire offers delightful sidecars with a brown sugar rim, perfect for sipping while enjoying the beach. While it’s a bit pricey, it’s worth every penny for the exceptional dining experience.
