Things to do in London

Majestic Buckingham Palace, February 2023. A timeless symbol of London’s royal heritage
St. Paul's Cathedral
St. Paul's is one of London’s most iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, it was completed in 1710. The massive dome is one of the most striking features and can be seen from many parts of the city. I love climbing to the Dome Gallery for panoramic views of London. The cathedral also has a rich history, including surviving the bombings during World War II.
Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the Queen in London and one of the most famous palaces in the world. Although you can’t visit the palace year-round, I always enjoy watching the Changing of the Guard, a popular ceremony outside the palace. The palace also has beautiful gardens, and in the summer, you can tour its luxurious rooms, including the famous Throne Room.
The Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum is one of my favorite museums in London. It has an amazing collection of specimens, from dinosaurs to rare minerals. The best part is that it’s free to enter! I love the massive dinosaur hall with its life-size skeletons and interactive exhibits that make science fun for everyone.
Victoria Street and Victoria Station
The Victoria area is a vibrant part of the city, with Victoria Station being one of the busiest transport hubs. I like walking around the area, where you can find a mix of Victorian and modern architecture. It’s a lively spot with shops, restaurants and bars, and it’s conveniently located near attractions like Buckingham Palace and Westminster. It’s a great place to stroll and take in the atmosphere of the city.
Sky Garden
The Sky Garden is a hidden gem located on the 35th floor of the "Walkie Talkie" skyscraper in London’s financial district. From the observation deck, I get breathtaking views of the city, including landmarks like Tower Bridge and The Shard. The garden itself is beautiful, with a variety of exotic plants. The best part is that entry is free, but I always make sure to book my visit in advance.
Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge is one of the most recognizable bridges in the world. I love walking across it and enjoying the stunning views of the Thames River and the city skyline. The bridge has a fascinating history, and I find it interesting to visit the Tower Bridge Exhibition, where I can learn about its engineering and see the Victorian machinery that once lifted the bridge to allow ships to pass.
Places to eat & drink in London

Dishoom (Covent Garden)
This Bombay-inspired restaurant is a must-visit for its incredible Indian food and vibrant atmosphere. The menu is full of flavorful dishes, but I particularly love the black daal and the house chai. It’s perfect for a casual meal with friends or a special dinner.
Sketch (Mayfair)
Sketch is not just a restaurant but an experience. Known for its artistic décor and Michelin-starred food, it’s a great spot for a unique and luxurious dining experience. I love the afternoon tea here, served in a whimsical setting.
Borough Market (Southwark)
One of my favorite food spots in London, Borough Market is a bustling food market offering everything from fresh produce to artisanal cheese and street food. I always enjoy grabbing a bite from one of the many food stalls — perfect for trying local and international flavors.
The Ledbury (Notting Hill)
If you’re in the mood for fine dining, The Ledbury offers a two-Michelin-starred experience. The modern British menu is both innovative and delicious, with seasonal ingredients and impeccable presentation. It’s the perfect spot for a special occasion.
Duck & Waffle (Liverpool Street)
Located on the 40th floor of a skyscraper, Duck & Waffle offers amazing views of the London skyline. The menu features creative British cuisine, and I highly recommend trying the signature duck and waffle dish. It’s a fantastic place for a memorable meal with a view.
The Churchill Arms (Kensington)
This charming pub is famous not only for its traditional British ales but also for its stunning floral displays outside. Inside, you'll find a cozy atmosphere and authentic Thai food, making it a great spot for a casual pint and a delicious meal.
Need to know
Public transportation (Oyster Card & contactless)
London’s public transport system is one of the easiest ways to get around. Consider getting an Oyster Card or using contactless payment (like a credit/debit card) for discounted fares on the Tube, buses and trains. It’s much cheaper than buying paper tickets.
Free museums
Many of London’s world-class museums — like the British Museum, National Gallery and Tate Modern — offer free entry to their permanent collections. It’s a great way to explore London’s culture and history without spending a lot.
Walking tours
London is a walkable city with many hidden gems. Consider joining a free walking tour to explore different neighborhoods, or simply take a stroll along the South Bank or through Hyde Park. There are also themed tours available, like Harry Potter or street art tours.
Weather preparedness
London weather can be unpredictable, so it’s always good to bring an umbrella or raincoat, even if the forecast looks sunny. Comfortable shoes are a must since you’ll likely do a lot of walking.
Tipping etiquette
Tipping is generally appreciated but not mandatory. In restaurants, a service charge of 12.5 percent is often included in the bill. If not, leaving a 10 to 15 percent tip is customary. For taxis, rounding up the fare or tipping 10 percent is common.
Time zone
London is in the GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) zone in winter and BST (British Summer Time) during daylight savings (March to October). Make sure to adjust your watches or devices accordingly!
Safety & emergency numbers
London is generally a safe city, but like any big city, it's important to stay aware of your surroundings. In case of an emergency, the number to call for police, fire or ambulance is 999.
Royal events & parades
If you’re visiting during certain times of the year, you might be able to witness royal events like the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace or the Trooping the Colour parade. Be sure to check the dates if you're interested in royal happenings.
Cash vs. card
While London is largely cashless, it’s always good to have a bit of cash for smaller purchases, especially in markets or smaller shops. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in most places.
Stay connected
Public Wi-Fi is available in many cafes, restaurants and public spaces, but I recommend getting a local SIM card or portable Wi-Fi device if you need reliable internet on the go.
