Where to stay

Unlock perks by contacting Erika Iurcovich to book your trip.

Day 1: Arrival in Anchorage & recovery

Anchorage

Arrive in Anchorage and keep the first day intentionally light to recover from travel. After settling in, take a short walk along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail or enjoy views around Lake Hood, where floatplanes constantly come and go. This is a great day for an early dinner and rest so you’re refreshed for the journey ahead. Insider tip: resist the urge to start driving immediately—Anchorage is the perfect buffer day.

Day 2: Anchorage culture & easy exploration

Alaska Native Heritage

Spend the day exploring Anchorage’s cultural and natural highlights. Visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center to understand the state’s Indigenous cultures, followed by Earthquake Park or Point Woronzof for sweeping views of Cook Inlet. This day adds valuable context to everything you’ll see later in the trip. Insider tip: Anchorage museums are best earlier in the day, leaving afternoons open for outdoor time.

Day 3: Anchorage to Denali (with reindeer stop)

Denali National Park

Drive north toward Denali National Park, breaking up the journey with a stop at the Reindeer Farm in Palmer—a memorable and low-effort experience, especially for kids. Continue on to your Denali-area lodge and settle in for the evening surrounded by wilderness. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as you approach Denali. Insider tip: start this drive early to allow for spontaneous scenic stops.

Day 4: Denali National Park Exploration

Bears in Alaska

Dedicate a full day to Denali National Park, focusing on wildlife viewing and easy exploration rather than long hikes. A guided bus tour or park shuttle offers the best chance to see moose, caribou, bears, and (on clear days) Denali itself. The sheer scale of the landscape is unforgettable. Insider tip: wildlife sightings are unpredictable—patience pays off.

Day 5: Denali to Girdwood (scenic drive day)

This is a longer drive day, but one filled with classic Alaska scenery. Travel south toward Girdwood, stopping for scenic overlooks, rivers, and mountain views along the way. Arriving at Alyeska Resort feels like a reward after the journey. Insider tip: pack snacks and plan for flexibility—this is a “journey over destination” kind of day.

Day 6: Girdwood & Alyeska area adventures

Spend the day exploring Girdwood and its surrounding wilderness. Ride the Alyeska Aerial Tram for panoramic views, then visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to see native animals up close. This area offers some of the most accessible wildlife and mountain scenery in the state. Insider tip: the tram is best earlier in the day before clouds roll in.

Day 7: Whittier & Glacier experience

Take a day trip to Whittier, traveling through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel to reach Prince William Sound. A glacier cruise or boat tour offers a quieter, less crowded alternative to busier fjords while still delivering dramatic ice and wildlife. The contrast between mountains, water, and glaciers is striking. Insider tip: check tunnel schedules in advance—they dictate timing.

Day 8: Girdwood to Seward via the Seward Highway

Seward Harbor

Drive south to Seward along the Seward Highway, widely considered one of the most scenic roads in North America. Stop at Turnagain Arm viewpoints to look for beluga whales and enjoy the sweeping coastal scenery. Arrive in Seward with time to explore the small harbor town. Insider tip: plan this drive during daylight for maximum views.

Day 9: Kenai Fjords National Park & Exit Glacier

Today is a highlight of the trip with a wildlife and glacier cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park. Expect tidewater glaciers, sea lions, puffins, and often whales. After the cruise, visit Exit Glacier for an easy walk with powerful views and educational signage. Insider tip: morning cruises tend to have calmer seas.

Day 10: Seward to Anchorage & departure prep

Return to Anchorage for your final night, allowing a buffer before departure. This is a good opportunity for last-minute souvenir shopping, a relaxed dinner, or a final coastal walk. Ending the trip in Anchorage keeps departure day stress-free. Insider tip: always plan a final-night buffer in Alaska—weather delays happen.

Need to know

Alaska rewards flexibility; weather can change plans quickly. This itinerary prioritizes fewer bases with deeper experiences. Booking accommodations and tours early is essential in summer. Ideal for families who want wildlife, glaciers, and scenery without constant hotel changes.
