Our stay at Hotel Copernicus genuinely set the tone for our entire trip. We were in Kraków at the start of a multi-generational Poland heritage journey, tracing our family roots across the country with 11 people ranging in age from 40 to 85. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt personal and truly special. Staying in a 14th century building on the oldest street in the city added so much atmosphere, but it was really the warmth of the staff that made it feel right for the kind of trip we were on. My recent trip through Poland was unlike any other travel experience I’ve had because it wasn’t centered around sightseeing alone. Rome is one of those bucket-list cities that truly lives up to the hype, but it can feel overwhelming when traveling with kids, especially if you try to do too much at once. We visited during Holy Week with our boys (ages 9 and 11) and extended family, including toddlers and a baby. Traveling with such a large, multi-gen group reinforced how important pacing is in this city. The magic of Rome isn’t just the main tourist sites but also the quiet early mornings, the gelato breaks and the unforgettable moments that happen when you slow down and take it all in. It’s a destination we’d happily return to, especially in a different season, to explore even more.

In my family, we started the tradition of celebrating our boys’ 10th birthdays with a special trip—just for them. After years of talking about visiting the Christmas markets in Europe, my family finally decided to make this trip a reality. We were a large family group of 15 people spanning the ages of six months all the way to 60 years, so we needed to prioritize budget and ease of travel.
