Vancouver is a city of breathtaking beauty, from its stunning natural landscapes to its warm and welcoming residents. From the moment I landed, I was met with friendly smiles and helpful locals who made navigating the airport effortless. Thanks to their guidance, I smoothly passed through immigration, boarded the SkyTrain, and arrived at my waterfront hotel with ease. At the Fairmont Waterfront, the staff enthusiastically highlighted activities right outside the hotel doors. Energized by their suggestions, I set out to explore the vibrant city around me.

Holland America has been cruising in Alaska longer than Alaska has been a state—and it shows. Holland America is also known for having the best docking locations, often the closest to town, and the longest time in port. This makes shore excursions easy and stress-free. Walks into town are short, and it’s often simple to pop back to your room to grab or drop off a jacket. The staff goes out of their way to make your experience enjoyable. They greet you with a smile and are always ready to help.

Tunisia’s history is deep and rich. Carthage, near Tunis, was established by the Phoenicians in 814 BCE and was a major hub of their empire for hundreds of years. Later it was conquered by the Romans, followed by Vandals, Byzantines and Arabs. The influence of these cultures can be seen everywhere. In the North, you’ll find numerous well-preserved archaeological sites from all these empires. In the South, the Sahara Desert is still home to many Berbers, descendants of the original settlers of the area. Many of these Berber villages will be familiar to Star Wars fans, as several of the films were made here. No matter where you are, you will feel the warm and gracious hospitality of the Tunisian people.

Djerba offers a compelling mix of fine beaches and sun, along with enough spice to separate it from the usual tourist beach destinations. Tunisians’ warm hospitality will make you feel welcome as you explore their country and culture. It is also significantly cheaper than most Mediterranean resort destinations.
