Curator’s statement
Tucked high above the Aegean on the island of Sifnos, Hotel Verina Astra is the kind of hideaway that instantly makes you slow down, breathe deeper, and savor the moment. It’s a boutique retreat that blends Cycladic charm with understated luxury—whitewashed walls, natural textures, and panoramic sea views that shift in color from sunrise to starlight. From lounging by the infinity pool to discovering nearby villages and indulging in fresh, garden-to-table dining, every detail at Verina Astra feels designed to immerse you in the rhythm of island life. This is where comfort meets authenticity, and where a few days can feel like a restorative escape into another world. Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a girlfriends’ getaway, or a solo retreat, Hotel Verina Astra delivers the perfect mix of elegance, comfort, and location. I went with a group of 15 for my bestie’s 40th Birthday and we had the most magical time. The hotel is just small enough that we felt like we had it all to ourselves, yet we didn’t do a full buyout. As a Fora Pro travel advisor and luxury travel expert behind The JetSetting Fashionista, I’d be delighted to help you plan your stay in Sifnos, Greece. From personalized hotel bookings to curated tasting itineraries and insider restaurant reservations, I’ll make sure your trip is seamless and unforgettable. Staying at Hotel Verina Astra felt like slipping into a Cycladic dream. My suite boasted a spacious private terrace with sweeping sea views—perfect for sunset lounging. Inside, the whitewashed rock walls, bamboo ceilings, rattan lampshades, and plush cushions gave the space a soothing, artful vibe. The bathroom, with sleek concrete finishes and a shallow stone sink, felt like a contemporary spa tucked into nature. Every corner felt curated, yet effortlessly organic.

Verina Astra’s serene setting on the east coast—about 150 meters above sea level—offered a peaceful perch above the Aegean. I spent afternoons poolside on wood-carved daybeds, watching the horizon fade from turquoise to gold.

My favorite secret spot near the hotel was found on a short stroll down a rugged path that revealed a hidden rocky outcrop where I took a refreshing dip in the clear sea—a quiet, magical moment. Outside the hotel, Artemonas is a neoclassical village just 3 km away, perfect for wandering its flowered lanes, sampling almond sweets, and browsing local pottery. I found the most gorgeous pottery, which I bought and shipped home with me. Such a fun way to take this magical trip back to California.

Dining at Bostani Restaurant & Bar was a standout—imagine cliffside tables framed by olive trees, set under a canopy of stars, with Paros shimmering on the horizon. Every dish felt celebratory: burnt aubergine with walnut vinegar, smoked octopus, fiery wild rocket, and fresh spaghetti with parsley and bottarga. My favorite dish was the Greek yogurt with granola, which I enjoyed daily for breakfast. I’ve never had such fresh, tasty yogurt. It’s hard to enjoy Greek yogurt at home and compare to the freshness experienced during this stay.

Ingredients are plucked from the hotel’s garden just before serving—aromatic herbs and wild produce take center stage. We dined here daily for breakfast, most lunches, and one dinner and it was all fabulous! If you want to check in and not leave the hotel, you’re in very good hands to do that.
