Curator’s statement
instants d’Absolu feels like discovering a hidden corner of secret France where nature, silence, and wellness come together in a deeply intentional way. Set beside a tranquil lake in the volcanic Auvergne region, the ecolodge was designed as a true healing sanctuary—where forest immersion, dark skies, and restorative spa rituals help guests reconnect with themselves. What makes this destination special is its philosophy of preventative wellness: creating space for rest, presence, and conscious living before burnout ever arrives. It’s an off-the-radar retreat that feels both grounding and transformative.

instants d’Absolu is the kind of place that immediately made me feel like I’d found a true piece of secret France, an off-the-radar sanctuary that feels rare in today’s travel landscape. The lodge sits beside Lac du Pêcher in France’s Auvergne region, surrounded by forest, volcanic landscapes, and a level of quiet that you can feel in your body. From the moment I arrived, I could sense my nervous system downshifting: still water, fresh air, and nothing competing for your attention.

The main lodge

The grounds
What stayed with me most is how intentional the experience is. This isn’t a hotel that “adds” wellness; it’s designed as a healing sanctuary, where nature does the heavy lifting and the team layers in restorative rituals that support real renewal. The spa offerings include specialized energetic massages along with brainwave-focused therapies (including delta sessions) that are designed to promote deep relaxation, mental clarity, and better sleep. Even the property’s emphasis on silence, forest immersion, and dark-sky stargazing feels like part of the wellness program.

Sledding in the winter
I also loved the culinary approach. Instead of ordering from a traditional menu, dining is a surprise experience, which beautifully reinforces the lodge’s philosophy: slow down, trust, and be present. Meals feel curated and nourishing, and the entire flow of the day supports the idea of preventative wellness, not just recovery after burnout.
Beyond the flavors, the culinary heart of the lodge beats with deep respect for the land. Their signature "whole-animal" approach to local wild venison (daguet) is a masterclass in ethical dining—from a restorative oat-pasta broth using the nutrient-rich cuts to a delicate osso buco, ensuring nothing from the forest is wasted.

Owners Laurence and Daniel
This is a destination I would recommend for couples who want a truly restorative escape, solo travelers seeking a meaningful reset, and retreat leaders looking for an intimate buyout that feels high-touch and deeply aligned with conscious living. Laurence and her team are especially thoughtful with group bookings, and you can feel how much care goes into curating the experience. For U.S. travelers, routing is via Paris (train or flight to Clermont-Ferrand) or Lyon with a scenic drive, and once you arrive, the sanctuary feeling is immediate.

Need to know
This property is intentionally designed as a digital detox sanctuary, so guests should be prepared for limited cell service and embrace the opportunity to fully unplug. The atmosphere is quiet and contemplative, which is part of what makes the experience so restorative.
The lodge is relatively small, which allows for a very personalized guest experience. Because of this, I recommend booking well in advance, especially for retreat groups or full-property buyouts. Laurence and her team prefer to coordinate directly with group organizers to ensure the programming, wellness rituals, and dining experiences are thoughtfully curated.
For travelers planning a stay, I suggest arriving with the intention to slow down and stay at least two nights to fully benefit from the spa rituals, nature immersion, and evening stargazing under the region’s protected dark skies.
Guests booking through Fora can also receive a special wellness ritual designed to support deep sleep, which is a beautiful way to end the evening after a day spent in nature.
