Site Inspection at InterContinental Edinburgh The George
Curator’s statement

In March of 2024, I had the opportunity to complete a site inspection while staying at the InterContinental Edinburgh The George. The professional team took great pride in welcoming us to their historic property. The General Manager, Kieran, goes above and beyond to ensure each guest has a pleasant stay. I would stay here again and recommend it to my clients.

Introduction

The InterContinental Edinburgh The George is an upscale hotel located in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland. Originally comprised of townhouses built in the 18th Century, this hotel was once home to Scotland's most affluent locals. The property offers a blend of traditional style and tasteful opulence - think high ceilings adorned with intricate moldings and Corinthian columns. With its central location, the hotel is perfect for travelers who want to explore all that Edinburgh has to offer, from its historic sites to its world-class museums and lively nightlife.

Accommodation

My room, a Junior Suite, included a king-size bed with crisp white linens and plump pillows. But it was the little touches that truly impressed: I am always a sucker for a plush bathrobe, and I loved returning to my room after turndown service with calm music playing.

The InterContinental Edinburgh The George offers a variety of room categories to suit different needs and budgets. Even better, this hotel is pet friendly. Here are some of the room categories available:

A bed with white sheets in the middle of a hotel room

Classic Rooms: These rooms provide a comfortable and stylish haven, offering one or two double beds.

Premium Rooms: These larger rooms offer more space to relax and unwind.

King Premium Rooms: These rooms feature a king-size bed for a truly comfortable stay.

Junior Suites: These elegant suites offer more space to unwind. The room includes a king bed, sofa, and beautiful marble bathroom with a clawfoot tub and a walk-in shower.

One Bedroom Suite: In addition to the marble bathroom mentioned above, this suite offers floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking George Street and a king bed.

Signature Suites (Ferrier or Somerville): These well-designed suites are the ultimate in luxury, featuring a spacious living area, additional luxury amenities, separate bedroom(s), and stunning views of the city.

Dining

The restaurant here isn't your average hotel restaurant - it's worth making time for a meal here while you're in Edinburgh. Fine dining at the InterContinental Edinburgh The George centers around Le Petit Beefbar (founded by restaurateur Riccardo Giraudi). This chic restaurant isn't just for meat lovers as there are options for all diet preferences. The menu takes diners on a global adventure, with street food flavors from Japan, Mexico, and Europe playfully reimagined alongside classic brasserie dishes.

Wanting a quick bite? Check out Burr & Co - serving up coffee, sandwiches, salads, cakes, pastries, and even cocktails!

Interested in Afternoon tea? Check out Club Intercontinental (available to suite guests), offering delicate finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and an assortment of tempting pastries served on a tiered stand. Paired with a selection of loose-leaf teas, it's the perfect way to indulge in a quintessential British tradition.

For a wider variety of casual dining options, venture out onto Edinburgh's vibrant George Street. This historic thoroughfare is a foodie paradise, with everything from traditional pubs to Michelin-starred restaurants. Whether you crave a hearty Scottish breakfast, a light lunch, or a lively post-dinner drink, you'll find the perfect spot to soak in the city's atmosphere just steps away from the hotel.

Amenities and Activities

Stepping beyond the luxurious comfort of your room, The InterContinental Edinburgh The George offers a state-of-the-art fitness center including the latest cardiovascular and weight-training equipment.

The hotel also features a variety of meeting and event spaces perfect for business gatherings or social occasions. Whether you require an intimate space for a board meeting or a grand ballroom for a wedding celebration, the InterContinental's events team can help bring your vision to life.

Location

InterContinental Edinburgh The George occupies a prime location in the heart of the city. Step out the front door and you're immediately immersed in Edinburgh's rich history. Princes Street Gardens, a sprawling oasis of green space in the heart of the city, is just a short stroll away. Here you can wander through manicured gardens, admire the iconic castle perched on a volcanic rock, and soak in panoramic views of the city.

A ten-minute walk brings you to the iconic Edinburgh Castle, a fortress that has witnessed centuries of Scottish history. For a dose of culture, the National Galleries of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Academy are within walking distance.

Beyond the immediate vicinity, Edinburgh offers a wealth of exploration opportunities. The Royal Mile, a historic street lined with shops and historic buildings, leads you to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen's official residence in Scotland. For a unique perspective on the city, take a stroll along Arthur's Seat, an extinct volcano that offers panoramic views of the city.

Need to Know

I recommend the InterContinental Edinburgh The George to my clients looking for a centrally located, historic property that includes upscale, traditional interiors.

Regardless of it you’re staying at the property, checking out Le Petit Beefbar is a must!
