Morocco: A Journey That Changed Me
Curator’s statement

Travel has always been more than simply visiting new places for me—it’s about connecting with people, embracing different cultures, and returning home with a new perspective. My journey through Morocco from April 23 to May 2, 2026, did exactly that. Every day brought unforgettable moments, from exploring ancient cities and breathtaking landscapes to sharing conversations with welcoming locals. Morocco left a lasting impression on my heart, reminding me that some of life’s greatest lessons are found far beyond our comfort zones.

Some trips are vacations, but others become life-changing experiences. My journey through Morocco was one I’ll treasure forever. Every day introduced me to something new—whether it was breathtaking architecture, vibrant markets, delicious cuisine, or the incredible kindness of the Moroccan people. By the time I returned home, I wasn’t just bringing back souvenirs; I was bringing home memories, friendships, and a deeper appreciation for this remarkable country.

My Moroccan homes away from home

My adventure began at the beautiful Dawliz Resort & Spa in Rabat, where I stayed from April 24–26. Sitting along the Bouregreg River, it was the perfect place to relax after my journey to Morocco. Waking up to peaceful river views and enjoying the resort’s beautiful grounds gave me the perfect introduction to the country’s warm hospitality.

From Rabat, I traveled to Fes and checked into the Fes Marriott Hotel Jnan Palace from April 26–28. After spending the day exploring one of the world’s oldest cities, it was wonderful to return to such an elegant hotel. The spacious rooms, beautiful gardens, and welcoming atmosphere made it the perfect place to recharge before another day of adventure.

Next, I spent the night at the Barceló Anfa Casablanca on April 28–29. Located in the heart of Casablanca, it perfectly reflected the city’s modern sophistication while keeping me close to many of its most iconic attractions. It was a wonderful place to unwind after an exciting day exploring Morocco’s largest city.

I finished my journey at the stunning Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech, where I stayed from April 29 through May 2. This luxurious resort felt like an oasis in the middle of Marrakech. The beautiful gardens, exceptional service, and relaxing atmosphere made it the perfect place to end an unforgettable adventure.

Casablanca

Casablanca was my first glimpse of modern Morocco. Standing before the magnificent Hassan II Mosque left me speechless. Built partially over the Atlantic Ocean, its intricate craftsmanship and sheer size are something every traveler should experience at least once. It was the perfect blend of history, faith, and architectural beauty.

Saw some amazing ruins—Greek?? Yes, actually

Rabat

Rabat surprised me with its elegance and charm. Walking through its historic sites, beautiful gardens, and peaceful streets gave me a wonderful introduction to Morocco’s royal history and modern culture. It felt relaxed, welcoming, and full of hidden treasures.

Stopped at the Villa Volubilia Winery on the way to Fes

Fes

Fes was unlike anywhere I have ever visited. As I wandered through the ancient medina, it truly felt as though I had stepped back hundreds of years. The narrow alleyways were alive with artisans creating pottery, weaving textiles, crafting metalwork, and selling colorful spices around every corner.

One of the most fascinating experiences was visiting the famous Chouara Tanneries. Watching leather being produced using centuries-old techniques was incredible. The vibrant dyeing pits created a scene unlike anything I had ever witnessed. While the aroma certainly took some getting used to, seeing this ancient craft in person made me appreciate the artistry behind every finished product. I couldn’t resist purchasing what has become my favorite leather coat and matching handbag—beautiful reminders of an unforgettable experience.

My new coat. It is camel leather and so soft (plus my favorite color)

Marrakech

Marrakech completely captured my heart. Every street seemed filled with energy, music, colorful markets, fragrant spices, and friendly faces. Jemaa el-Fnaa Square came alive each evening with entertainers, food vendors, musicians, and storytellers, making every visit a new adventure.

One of the absolute highlights of my entire trip was taking a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Moroccan countryside. As the balloon gently lifted into the morning sky, I watched the sun rise over the landscape, illuminating villages, palm groves, and the distant Atlas Mountains. Floating peacefully above it all was breathtaking and offered a perspective of Morocco that few people ever get to experience. It was truly one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments that I’ll never forget.

Another experience that touched me deeply was being welcomed into a local family’s home for a traditional Moroccan dinner. Sharing authentic food, learning about their customs, and experiencing genuine hospitality reminded me that travel is really about connecting with people as much as visiting places.

The moments that meant the most

While Morocco’s incredible architecture, colorful souks, and breathtaking scenery amazed me every day, it was the people who made this journey truly unforgettable. Everywhere I went, I was welcomed with warm smiles, kindness, and genuine hospitality.

Traveling with such an amazing group made every experience even more meaningful. We laughed together, shared stories, encouraged one another, and created friendships that will last long after the trip ended.

As a travel advisor, I spend my days helping others discover the world, but experiencing Morocco firsthand reminded me exactly why I love what I do. Every destination has a story, and Morocco’s story is one of history, resilience, beauty, and heart.

This journey wasn’t simply about checking another country off my travel list. It challenged my perspective, inspired my curiosity, and reminded me that the greatest souvenirs aren’t the ones you pack in your suitcase—they’re the memories you carry with you forever.

Morocco has left a lasting place in my heart, and I know I’ll be sharing its beauty with my clients for years to come.

Need to know

My advice is to come with an open mind, comfortable walking shoes, and a sense of adventure. You’llyou’ve spend time navigating ancient medinas with uneven cobblestone streets, so packing light and wearing comfortable clothing is essential. While Morocco is modern in many ways, it’s also deeply rooted in tradition, so I found that dressing modestly—covering my shoulders and knees when visiting religious or cultural sites—not only showed respect but also made me feel more comfortable. The locals were incredibly warm and hospitable, and I quickly learned that taking the time to greet people, accept a glass of traditional mint tea, and embrace the slower pace of life made my experience even more meaningful.

Don’t be afraid to bargain in the souks—it’s expected and actually part of the fun! Most importantly, allow yourself to experience Morocco with all five senses. Listen to the call to prayer echo across the cities, breathe in the aromas of spices and fresh bread, savor authentic tagines and pastries, admire the incredible craftsmanship, and take time to simply soak in the beauty around you. Morocco isn’tyou’ve just a destination you visit—it’s a place you truly experience, and it will stay with you long after you’ve returned home.
