Rosewood Vienna: Where Imperial Grandeur Meets Modern Luxury
Curator’s statement

Rosewood Vienna is the rare property that marries Old World charm with contemporary elegance in a way only Vienna can inspire. Its location in the Goldenes Quartier—steps from the city’s most iconic cultural treasures—makes it a dream base for travelers who want history at their doorstep without sacrificing sophistication. I was especially moved by the service, thoughtful touches, and sense of place that permeate every corner of the hotel. This is a destination where luxury feels personal, art comes alive, and Vienna unfolds around you in the most effortless way.

Expert advice from people who’ve actually been there

Where to stay

Rosewood Vienna opened in August 2022 as the city’s first ultra-luxury hotel, and it honestly feels like such a special blend of old and new. The hotel sits inside four beautifully preserved historic buildings—once a bank—so it has that classic Viennese charm from the outside. Inside, everything is bright, modern, and thoughtfully designed. You’ll see touches inspired by Gustav Klimt, curated Austrian artwork, and pops of Rosewood’s signature colors that make the whole space feel warm, stylish, and inviting.

Lobby

One thing that really sets this hotel apart is that it’s a Two Michelin Key property—an award that only goes to hotels offering truly exceptional stays. In simple terms, Michelin Keys recognize places that just get it right: design, comfort, service, personality, and the overall guest experience. At Rosewood Vienna, you feel this right away. The team is warm and intuitive, the spaces are beautifully crafted, the dining is elevated without being stuffy, and the whole property has this “you’re exactly where you’re meant to be” feeling. It’s easy to see why it’s considered one of the best luxury hotels in Europe.

And then there’s the location—which is honestly one of the biggest reasons I fell in love with this hotel. It's right in the heart of the Goldenes Quartier, a gorgeous pedestrian-only luxury district. You can walk to almost everything: St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, the Vienna State Opera, the Spanish Riding School, the Graben & Kohlmarkt shopping streets, and even the MuseumsQuartier, all within about 15 or 30 minutes. Whether you're grabbing a pastry at Demel or wandering to dinner, exploring Vienna from here feels effortless and fun. If you love walkability and being surrounded by beautiful boutiques, cafés, and historic streets, this is the perfect home base.

Deluxe Room

The rooms are another big highlight. With 103 rooms (including 33 suites and six two-bedroom Houses), there’s something for everyone—couples, families, even longer stays. Some rooms even look directly out at the Imperial Palace, which is such a treat. The Presidential Suite (Hoffmann House) is stunning, and for families or groups, there are plenty of connecting options. They’re also pet-friendly and have a few accessible rooms. One of my favorite personal touches was the embroidered initials on our pillows—such a sweet and thoughtful surprise that made the stay feel extra special.

Dining here is genuinely delicious. Neue Hoheit serves beautiful Austrian and international dishes, and their schnitzel and oyster bar are must-tries. Breakfast on the seventh floor feels light and refreshing with lovely city views. In the evenings, the 1835 Rooftop Bar has one of the best atmospheres in Vienna—a mix of great cocktails, panoramic views, and that perfect glow during sunset. Many spaces can also be reserved privately, which is great for intimate celebrations or events.

And for anyone who loves a little pampering, the spa may be small, but it’s wonderfully peaceful. Treatments use Augustinus Bader products, which are amazing, and if you really want to unwind, the St. Peter’s Wellness Suite has its own sauna and steam room—basically your own private wellness sanctuary.

Need to know

  • You can walk everywhere. One of the biggest perks of staying at Rosewood Vienna is how effortless it is to explore the city. Most of Vienna’s top sights—St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Hofburg Palace, the Opera House, the Spanish Riding School, and all the iconic shopping streets—are just a short, enjoyable walk away. It truly takes the stress out of sightseeing.

  • The Christmas markets are magical. If you’re visiting during the holiday season, you’re in for such a treat. Several of Vienna’s most popular Christmas markets are nearby, including the ones at Stephansplatz, Am Hof, and the famous Rathausplatz Christkindlmarkt. Expect twinkling lights, mulled wine, handmade gifts, and that cozy winter magic Vienna is known for.

  • Spa appointments book up quickly. The spa is intimate and peaceful, but because of its size, treatments—especially those using Augustinus Bader products—fill up fast. If you know you want a massage or facial, it’s best to book ahead.

  • Don’t skip the food and drinks. The schnitzel at Neue Hoheit is a standout, and the 1835 Rooftop Bar is one of my favorite places to unwind at sunset. Reservations are helpful, especially on weekends or if you want that perfect golden-hour view.
