Why Kimpton Mas Olas was the Perfect Todos Santos Getaway
Curator’s statement

I recently spent a rare child-free weekend in Todos Santos with my husband—a much-needed mix of relaxation and adventure. We were craving slow mornings, a bit of exploring (we’re both restless travelers at heart), and, most of all, sleep—catching up on lots of it, thanks to our one-year-old. I’d had my eye on Todos Santos for a while and did a deep dive into the area’s luxury hotels to find the right fit. Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa, which opened in 2024, turned out to be exactly what we needed. Still flying under the radar, it felt like a well-kept secret. I genuinely couldn’t fault it and would recommend it to anyone looking for an adults-only getaway in Mexico that’s off the beaten path—away from the crowds and glitz of Cabo—and full of quiet magic. We left feeling recharged and refreshed, and already planning when we can come back to this beautiful corner of Mexico.

Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa is an adults-only luxury resort located in El Pescadero, just over an hour’s drive from Los Cabos International Airport and about 15 minutes from the town of Todos Santos. Renting a car is an absolute must, in my opinion. The hotel is definitely off the beaten path—quite literally down a long, sandy dirt road off the highway that might have you wondering if you’ve taken a wrong turn and like you are in the middle of nowhere. It’s hard to imagine that such a gorgeous resort is waiting at the end of it. But when you pull up to the gates, you’re greeted by a friendly doorman in a refreshingly personal way. The giant wooden entrance door is one of the coolest and most unique hotel entrances I have seen.

Overall vibe:

Kimpton Mas Olas is quite literally a desert oasis. It’s modern yet distinctly Mexican and local, blending into the desert landscape surrounded by cacti, sand dunes, and mountains. The whitewashed adobe buildings are spread out across the property, connected by winding paths, interconnected gardens, its own orchard, and several beautiful pools. The vibe is incredibly peaceful, with a wide, empty beach that stretches for miles, plus a lovely spa, gym, and excellent dining options. The service was faultless—everyone we met was friendly, warm, and genuinely welcoming.

Rooms:

There are 103 rooms in total, including 12 beachfront villas. The rooms are gorgeous—thoughtfully designed using local materials like handmade tiles, native wood, and bright, woven textiles. Each one comes with a private terrace and daybed, and while some overlook the gardens, most face the sea. Many have extras like outdoor showers, plunge pools, or rooftop decks, and the villas go all out with bigger infinity pools and cozy fire pit

We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a beachfront Villa, which felt like our own private residence on the beach, with a private plunge pool, outdoor shower, and gorgeous terrace with a firepit for watching the sunset. I honestly could have spent the whole weekend in our villa, just lounging on the terrace and enjoying the space and privacy.

Dining:

The food at Mas Olas was a total highlight. Kahal is the signature spot—right on the ocean, with an open kitchen and a menu full of fresh seafood, an amazing raw bar, and cocktails with housemade infusions and garden herbs. It feels fancy but not fussy, and the views of the Pacific are next-level.

Botánica is tucked into the resort’s own organic garden, and does beautiful alfresco dinners—think veggies straight from the ground, organic meats grilled over open flame, and a drinks list that’s just as thoughtful. Centro is the all-day, laid-back option by the pool, serving up Baja-style Mexican dishes. It’s casual, but still feels elevated. We loved the fresh guacamole and red tuna ceviche while chilling by the pool. Finally, the Coffee Shop is great if you want something quick and easy in the morning. They serve up excellent Mexican coffee, pressed juices, fresh pastries, and breakfast sandwiches.

Pools and amenities:

I couldn’t stop taking photos of the grounds—the pools are so gorgeous. The beachfront pool is lined with cactus, has a swim-up bar, and two tiers with a jacuzzi below. It’s connected to the restaurant Kahal, which is all white, breezy, and very Instagrammable. The other main pool sits in the center of the property, split into two sections with big loungers and its own restaurant Centro. Complimentary bikes are also available if you feel like exploring on wheels.

Wellness and fitness:

The wellness setup at Mas Olas is seriously impressive. The spa uses housemade oils and balms from the on-site gardens, and there’s a full hydrotherapy circuit with a steam room, salt sauna, ice fountain, and outdoor Jacuzzi. You’ll find two yoga shalas (indoor and outdoor), a Pilates studio, a gym with everything from TRX to sleds and ropes, plus daily classes ranging from gentle yoga to HIIT. There’s even a 25-meter lap pool tucked into the gardens

Local area:

El Pescadero, just north of Todos Santos, has its own little collection of cafes and restaurants worth checking out—some just minutes from the hotel. That said, we ventured into Todos Santos for most meals (I’d mapped out all the spots in advance, of course), and the drive was quick and easy. Los Cerritos Beach is also nearby, known for its calmer waters, beginner-friendly surf, and casual seafood shacks right on the sand. One of the highlights of the trip was an ATV tour into the surrounding mountains—absolutely epic views and such a fun way to explore. Highly recommend it.
