Hotel Spotlight: The Londoner
Curator’s statement

In early June, I spent two nights at The Londoner—a boutique, design-forward hotel that somehow feels both glamorous and cheeky, like London itself—in London’s Leicester Square. With Pride just around the corner and rainbow flags already lining nearby streets, the energy in central London was electric. This hotel knows exactly where it is and who it’s for: stylish travelers, theater lovers, design enthusiasts, and, yes, the LGBTQ+ community. The Londoner leans into the pulse of its neighborhood—the history, the drama, the playfulness—and turns it into a luxurious, art-filled stay that’s right at home in the city’s most vibrant square.

The Fora Perks

The Londoner is part of Preferred Hotels and Resorts, and when you book with me, you get access to Fora Perks, including daily breakfast for two, a $100 hotel credit, complimentary Wi-Fi, early check-in and late check-out when available, and potential upgrades. Through Preferred’s Pride program, you’ll also receive a special welcome amenity and the peace of mind that comes with knowing the staff has completed inclusive training to create a welcoming, affirming experience for LGBTQ+ travelers. It’s one of those rare programs that’s more than just marketing—it’s intentional hospitality.

Location

The hotel’s location is hard to beat. Set right in Leicester Square, The Londoner is steps from Trafalgar Square, Chinatown, and the West End’s most iconic theaters. There are more than 30 theaters within a 10-minute walk. It’s also incredibly easy to reach from both Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. Take the Piccadilly Line directly to Leicester Square or connect from Victoria Station if coming from Gatwick. Once you’re here, you’re surrounded by everything: Pride parade routes, Soho nightlife, Covent Garden cafés, and some of London’s best shopping.

Rooms & suites

Rooms at The Londoner are surprisingly spacious for a big Euro metropole, and they are also high-design and incredibly comfortable. Even the entry-level King Rooms come with floor-to-ceiling windows, bespoke art, Vispring beds, Nespresso machines, Dyson hairdryers, and Miller Harris bath amenities. The Deluxe City View rooms add sweeping skyline views that are especially magical at sunset (I can personally attest to this!). Junior Suites and up are loft-style, with open-plan living spaces, velvet seating, and dreamy corner views that make you want to linger. Plus, the Signature Suite has some of London’s finest NYE fireworks views. All guests get access to The Residence, a trio of guest-only lounge spaces, and The Retreat, the hotel’s wellness floor with a gym, indoor pool, sauna and steam room, and a superfood bar.

Culinary & cocktails

The Londoner’s food and beverage program is strong, with a little something for every mood. Whitcomb's, the main restaurant, serves French-Mediterranean cuisine in a bright, art-forward dining room, perfect for breakfast or a casual dinner before the theater. 8 at The Londoner is the rooftop bar and Japanese lounge, complete with panoramic views, a retractable roof, and DJ sets on weekends. The Stage is the chic champagne bar that transforms into a moody cocktail spot in the evening. Joshua’s Tavern, the hotel’s cozy gin pub, is great for a relaxed G&T with friends. And then there’s the hidden speakeasy. I won’t spoil too much, but look for the curved staircase in The Residence. It’s intimate, sultry, and exactly the kind of surprise that makes this hotel so memorable.

Need to know

Pride is one of the best times to be in London, and The Londoner makes a perfect home base for the festivities. You’re within walking distance to the parade route, Soho’s iconic LGBTQ+ bars and clubs, and Covent Garden’s café culture. The hotel is modern and luxurious, but not at all stiff. It embraces the spirit of its neighborhood with a subtle wink, like the peepholes in each elevator—a cheeky nod to Leicester Square’s historic underbelly of brothels and nightlife.
