Pimalai Resort & Spa: Koh Lanta’s Most Peaceful Luxury Escape
Curator’s statement

What I love most about Pimalai is how it makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. The beach is secluded and serene, and at night the jungle fills with a chorus of sounds that feel almost like music—a reminder of how far you’ve traveled. It’s intimate, peaceful, and perfect for anyone who wants to unwind into nature without sacrificing comfort.

Pimalai Resort & Spa is one of those rare places where the experience begins the moment you arrive. The welcome is genuinely personal. You'll be greeted with warm smiles, cool towels, and staff who seem to know exactly what you need after a day of travel.

The resort sits on a quiet stretch of Koh Lanta’s southern coastline, surrounded by dense jungle and a long, uncrowded beach that immediately sets the tone for a slower, more mindful kind of trip.

The hillside villas offer sweeping views of the Andaman Sea, while the intimate beachfront suites place you steps away from soft sand and easy sunrise walks. Days here naturally fall into a relaxed rhythm: lingering breakfasts, pool dips between chapters of your book, spa treatments that draw from local traditions, and evenings spent watching the sky shift from gold to indigo. At night, the jungle comes alive with a chorus of sounds that feels almost like music—a reminder that you’re somewhere wonderfully far from the crowds.

This is an ideal destination for travelers who want luxury without the noise—solo women seeking serenity, couples looking for romantic privacy, and anyone who feels most at home in nature. I often recommend Pimalai as a softer, more peaceful alternative to the busier islands like Koh Samui or Phuket. Its combination of natural beauty, heartfelt hospitality, and understated elegance makes it an unforgettable retreat.

Traditional longtail boats are part of the island’s charm—a scenic start to your Koh Lanta escape.

For guests who want to explore, Koh Lanta offers incredible snorkeling trips to Koh Haa, guided nature walks, local market visits in Old Town, and some of the best sunset viewpoints in southern Thailand. But truthfully, many travelers fall in love with Pimalai for the simple pleasure of slowing down. It’s the kind of place where the resort is the destination.

Golden hour on Koh Lanta

Need to know

Travelers should know that Pimalai offers two distinct experiences: the beachfront area, which is quiet and serene, and the hillside villas, which have some of the best ocean views in southern Thailand.

Getting there is part of the adventure—the resort arranges a smooth transfer from Krabi that ends with an authentic longtail boat ride. The transfer feels effortless, with attendants managing your luggage so you can sit back and take in the scenery.

Because the property is built into a lush hillside, expect some stairs and slopes, though golf carts (or “buggies”) are always available to take you anywhere you need to go.

Koh Lanta is warm and humid year-round, so breathable bamboo or linen clothing is ideal, along with moisture-wicking pieces if you plan to work out or take long walks. Evenings are especially beautiful; plan at least one sunset dinner and carve out time to wander through Lanta Old Town for a glimpse of the island’s slower, more local rhythm.
