Vienna, Austria’s magical capital city, deserves a spot on any bucket list. Stroll along the Danube, marvel at the Gothic architecture of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, wander in the lush Belvedere gardens, peruse the chic local boutiques of the Neubau neighborhood, walk the Ringstrasse — a boulevard that surrounds Vienna’s historic inner city — enjoy a night at the opera house...I could go on. But an excellent trip requires an excellent place to stay, of course, and Vienna has some serious hotel game. From fun boutique stays to five-star hotels, these are the best hotels in Vienna.

Hotel Sacher is a Viennese landmark in the heart of the city, and is comprised of no fewer than six buildings. With 152 rooms, this opulent hotel (Baroque-inspired decor, crystal chandeliers) offers an excellent level of service, and has been frequented by the likes of JFK, Queen Elizabeth II, Naomi Campbell and Sharon Stone. Viennese culture is celebrated throughout the property, with an artist collection, tort boxes and suites named after opera plays. Plus, it was recently renovated and stands as one of the Leading Hotels of the World.

A rooftop bar, smaller event space and plethora of events — including standup and concerts — make it a hub for entertainment. Plus, the hotel regularly partners with local artists, artisans and tastemakers to curate one-of-a-kind pop-up experiences.

This grand hotel, which sits on the famed Petersplatz square in Innere Stadt, invites guests into a modern haven with 99 spacious rooms and suites. The sophisticated Austrian luxury hotel is housed in a restored 19th-century bank, and is within walking distance of the best shops, sites and restaurants of Vienna’s charming Old Town. After a day of exploring (make sure you check out the Mozarthaus Vienna, Mozart’s old residence, which is now a history museum), indulge in a treatment at the hotel’s Asaya Spa, followed by a meal at the onsite Neue Hoheit, a stylish rooftop brasserie with some of the city’s best views.

Situated about a 10-minute walk from the Vienna State Opera and the main city center, Stephansplatz (the geographical heart of Vienna), Almanac Palais Vienna presents a fusion of a palace's historical elegance with newer construction (the hotel is located within two historic palais buildings, after all). With 111 rooms, the hotel provides a chic, moody vibe. Almanac is delightfully modern, too: their wellness / fitness center is top-notch, and features a sleek, dimly lit indoor pool, a well-equipped gym (complete with a VAHA fitness mirror) as well as a steamroom and sauna. Almanac’s restaurant, Donnersmarkt, serves seasonal, regionally sourced cuisine that puts vegetables center stage.
