Advisor - 13-Day Grecian Honeymoon: By Air, Land & Sea
Curator’s statement

Greece is one of my favorite places on Earth to visit, and I was fortunate enough to plan a 13-day honeymoon there in April 2023. I took the opportunity to explore all that Greece has to offer, from Thessaloniki in the north to one of the most popular islands, Santorini, in the south. My new husband and I had the perfect amount of time to soak in the culture, local customs, and food.

Where to stay

Unlock perks by contacting Sara to book your trip.

Day 1: Arrival day

Land in Thessaloniki and try to time your arrival in the afternoon to check into Electra Palace and to be able to rest. After a nap, enjoy dinner at the hotel restaurant Orizontes Roof Garden. Be sure to get the risotto with green asparagus!

Day 2: Thessaloniki

Take it easy on your first full day in Thessaloniki. Enjoy a complimentary breakfast at the hotel and be sure to book a treatment at the Electra Palace Spa. For evening cocktails, check out the Skyline City bar with 360-degree views of the city.

Day 3: Gastronomic tour of Thessaloniki

It’s time to explore Thessaloniki, so why not start with a gastronomic tour of the city? Learn about northern Greek cuisine and get prepared for the abundance of flavors that will await you for the rest of your trip. Check out the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and take a stroll by the sea to see the White Tower in the city.

Day 4: Thessaloniki to Athens

Take the IC Train from Thessaloniki to Athens for a four-hour journey through the Greek countryside. You’ll see Mount Olympus from the train and many quaint Greek towns. Take a taxi from the train station to the Niche Hotel and enjoy dinner overlooking the Acropolis at the Stork rooftop restaurant.

Day 5: The Acropolis & Acropolis Museum

Niche Hotel is only a few steps from the Acropolis, so spend your first day in Athens exploring the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. No photography is allowed in the Acropolis Museum, so maybe save some room in your suitcase for one of the museum’s artifact guides from the gift shop. Find a restaurant in Monastriaki (Little Monastery) for a fantastic dinner in the city.

Day 6: Free day in Athens

Take a free day to explore all that Athens has to offer. Stop by Syntagma Square and see the changing of the Evzone Guard, or take the cable cars up to Mt. Lycabettus at sunset for glorious views of the city. If you are looking for a casual spot for lunch, go to Riza Riza on Drakou Street and order the prosciutto pizza!

Day 7: Athens to Crete

It’s a short 45-minute flight from Athens to Crete and easy to get a taxi at the airport to Amirandes Resort. Spend the rest of the day unpacking and unwinding in your private pool. Dinner at the Minotaur is the perfect way to end the evening.

Day 8: Palace of Knossos & Lyrarakis Winery

For those who haven’t gotten their fill of archaeological ruins, stop by the Palace of Knossos to see the original foundation of where so many myths are set. From there, arrange a driver to take you to Lyrarakis Winery up in the mountains for a delightful and truly unforgettable tasting and tour. Dinner at Via Pastarella in the middle of Heraklion is also a must.

Day 9: Arolithos

You would be remiss to skip the historical town of Arolithos, just outside of Heraklion. Explore the shops in town and join an authentic Greek cooking class so that you can re-create delicious dishes once you are home. Relax back at the resort or head back into the city for dinner at Ntore to wrap up your Cretan experience.

Day 10: Crete to Santorini

An early ferry from Crete is the fastest way to get between the islands and will get you into Santorini in time to still have half a day there. Be sure to arrange your transportation from Athinios Port to Oia ahead of time! Check into Santo Pure Suites and Villas and spend the rest of your day in Oia shopping and finding a restaurant to grab a bite or a drink.

Day 11: Santorini

Although a small island, Santorini isn’t an easy island to navigate. One of the best ways to see all that Santorini has to offer is to join one of the many island cruises that are offered. The Santorini sunset cruise includes transportation, opportunities for swimming, and dinner with amazing views of the caldera during the multi-hour trip.

Day 12: Free day in Santorini

To conclude your honeymoon, a free day is likely in order. Enjoy your room at Santo, take the Santorini KTEL bus to Thira, or visit one of the beaches on the southern side of the island to relax. Soak in the last day of the Grecian sunlight!

Day 13: Departure day

Check out of Santo Pure and take arranged transportation to the Santorini airport. Your flight home from Santorini likely includes a layover in Athens, where you can spend your time organizing all of the pictures you took and reminiscing on the memories you made during your honeymoon in Greece.

Need to know

The best adventures had in Greece are often the ones that are not planned. Be sure to build in plenty of free time for relaxing and wandering, as those are the moments you are likely to remember the most.
