Curator’s statement
Journeying to East Africa—the birthplace of humanity—is like traveling back to where it all began. For me, it’s more than a destination, it’s a reminder of our shared connection to this planet and the life we share it with. Every ethical safari supports local communities, sustains conservation efforts, and helps ensure that these animals, our planet’s last great wild creatures, remain safe in their natural home. For my family, traveling together through East Africa became one of the most meaningful of our shared experiences. Many travelers describe a feeling of home in Africa. I now understand exactly what they mean.

Safari on camelback in Loisaba Conservancy
Visiting Micato-AmericaShare’s Harambee Community Centre was a deeply moving visit. The school serves as a nurturing oasis, cultivating curiosity, creativity, and purpose while equipping its students with the tools to pursue their passions and uplift their own community.
Adventuring from the ground up on a hot air balloon ride is a must-do on an Eastern Africa safari. Moving to the rhythm of the bush as the sun rises and the world awakens beneath you is a deeply calming and moving experience.
Riding by camelback on safari is a laughter filled experience for the entire family. Taking in a completely new perspective of the landscape beyond what you see from a safari vehicle. We ended our ride with a sunrise breakfast and mimosas while overlooking the vast plains.
Nothing can prepare you for the moment you come face to face with a lion after he’s finished his meal—so close you can hear the deep rhythm of his breath. To share a space with such a powerful, majestic creature is an awe-inspiring reminder of the raw beauty and balance of the wild.
Being welcomed to a Maasai village was an experience we will never forget. They opened their homes to us and shared with pride their traditions, crafts, and dances. Connecting with the elders, parents, and children was personal, and we left with a deep respect for their traditions and way of life.

Lunch at Elewana Lodo Springs
Food on safari is included in each of the lodges. From a large, leisurely lunch upon return from the morning game drive, to sundowner cocktails and snacks in the bush to concluding the day with a gourmet feast sourced from the on-site gardens, we were spoiled by the variety of options and flavors we experienced at each location. Whether dining above the Sand River as the Great Migration passed below, toasting in the bush at sunset, or dining by candlelight in a cozy lodge or tent, the incredible meals were only second to the tales we had to tell of our days spent on safari.
Need to know
With hundreds of tour operators and destination management companies (DMCs) in Africa, my job is to learn which operator is the best fit for your travel style and budget. I am familiar with the different regions in Africa and what each can offer on a safari. In our initial call, I can walk you through the regions, budget ranges, and lodge types to help create a safari best suited to you. I will give you an overall understanding of how a travel advisor, tour operator, and destination management company work together to present a safari that fits within your expectations and budget.
Next, I will often pull in my partners on the ground in Africa and schedule a conference call to answer any questions you may have about the various National Parks and Private Conservancy options. You can ask about which areas may be best to view the animals and culture you hope to experience. Planning an African safari is unique and very nuanced, necessitating the assistance of a team of travel professionals. One example is that inter country flights are not listed on the internet. My job is to be your advocate and liaison that oversees all of the pieces, bringing it all together to create a smooth travel experience. By working with me, many tour operators will waive a percentage or a fee that you may be charged without the support of a travel advisor.
