Curator’s statement
During my time visiting The Netherlands, while my main destination was Amsterdam, I fell in love with the Hague unexpectedly and have revisited multiple times since. Unlike the bustling crowds of Amsterdam, the Hague offers a peaceful retreat where you can immerse yourself in the Dutch culture through its historic streets, vibrant international community, and diverse culinary scene. From savoring fresh herring to enjoying festive Indonesian dishes, the city’s blend of calm and cultural richness captivates me every time.

Things to do in the Hague

The Royal Palace
Strolling the streets (old and modern): Wander through the Hague’s charming blend of cobblestone lanes and sleek modern avenues. The historic center, with its quaint shops and cafes, contrasts beautifully with contemporary districts showcasing Dutch urban design.
Passing the Royal Palace and International Court of Justice: Take a leisurely walk by the Noordeinde Palace, a working royal residence with elegant architecture, and the iconic Peace Palace, home to the International Court of Justice, symbolizing the Hague’s global significance.
Lunch at a herringsStand: Savor a quintessential Dutch experience with fresh, raw herring from a local stand. Served with onions and pickles, this briny delicacy is a quick, authentic taste of coastal Holland.
Indonesian food at night: Dive into the Hague’s vibrant food scene with a festive Indonesian meal. The city’s colonial history shines through in flavorful dishes like rijsttafel, a spread of spicy, aromatic small plates.
Happy hour on Korte Poten Street: Unwind with a drink at a cozy bar on Korte Poten, a lively street in the city center. The relaxed vibe and diverse crowd make it perfect for soaking up local life during happy hour.
Summer beach visit: In the summer, head to Scheveningen Beach, just a short tram ride away. Enjoy the sandy shores, stroll the pier, or relax at a beachside cafe with views of the North Sea.
December Christmas Market: Visit the Hague’s festive Christmas market in December, where twinkling lights, wooden stalls, and hot mulled wine create a magical holiday atmosphere.
Places to eat & drink in the Hague

El Mama BBQ: Enjoy a hearty dinner at El Mama BBQ, where perfectly grilled steaks steal the show. The cozy atmosphere and bold flavors make it ideal for a satisfying evening meal.
De Graaff Chocolaad: Indulge in the finest chocolates at De Graaff Chocolaad, a local gem that supplies the royal palace. Their handcrafted pralines and truffles are a must-try for any sweet tooth. Located on the same street as the Royal Palace, you would want to come back to The Hauge just for this, trust me!!!
