Curator’s statement
I’m a history buff, photography nerd and a fan of the “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” movie. Savannah is filled with historic beauty, southern hospitality, culture and stunning architecture. Beyond the charm, it has a deep and complex history with slavery. For me, a visit here always includes learning about our country’s history.

Things to do in Savannah

Avenue of the Oaks at Wormsloe Historic Site
Wormsloe Historic Site: Best known for its majestic oak avenue — perfect for the photographers! For history buffs, it is a former plantation, and relied heavily on enslaved labor to operate. You can explore the tabby ruins, which date back to the 1730s.
Pin Point Heritage Museum: It offers a look into the unique history of the Gullah-Geechee community, who are descendants of enslaved Africans. You can watch historical documentaries about the community, learn about the former seafood processing plant that the museum is located in and enjoy the views of the Moon River. If you're lucky, like I was during my visit, you may even meet locals. I had the honor of meeting Gail Laverne Smith, author of Gullah Geechee Gal.
First African Baptist Church: It is thought to be the oldest Black congregation in North America. Founded in 1773 by George Leile. The church offers tours showcasing the historic landmark and sharing the immense history of the congregation.
Jones Street: One of the prettiest streets I’ve ever seen thanks to the majestic oaks and beautiful homes. I recommend starting at Bull St and West Jones St, heading east. Morning or evening walks are best to enjoy the magical glow of the gas lanterns.
Mercer-Williams House: Of the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil fame! They have a quaint shop you must visit, and also a tour of the house. It’s quite a unique tour, and you can learn about Jim Williams, who owned the home and was the character the movie was based on.
Forsyth Park: Home to Savannah’s iconic ornate fountain, it is one of the most photographed landmarks in Savannah. It’s a great place to relax and people-watch. For an especially magical experience, visit during golden hour, when the light makes everything glow.
Bonaventure Cemetery: It was made famous by Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and is a must-visit on your trip to Savannah. The serenity and history intertwine for quite the experience.
Telfair Academy: Here you can visit the famous Girl Bird statue from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. They had to move it from the cemetery due to excessive foot traffic as the movie gained popularity.
Places to eat & drink in Savannah

Six Pence Pub
The Old Pink House: This is a Savannah staple and should be on everyone's list. I visited the tavern located in the basement. It was cozy, and had amazing service.
Cotton & Rye: Trendy, upscale restaurant known for its modern take on Southern food. Great spot for a special night out.
The Collins Quarter: Go for breakfast, it’s in the park. You won’t regret it.
The Grey: I first learned about this place thanks to Chef Mashama Bailey appearing on Top Chef. It’s located in an old Greyhound Bus station, and the food is amazing, and the vibe is perfect, complete with live music in the background.
The Public Kitchen & Bar: This restaurant blends farm-to-table cuisine with mid-century modern decor. I had some of the best BBQ chicken, collard greens and cheddar grits of my life.
Six Pence Pub: Cozy British pub, where you can get a delicious meal, or just pop in for a pint.
