Curator’s statement
Copenhagen has been on my radar for some time, watching Anthony Bourdain speak fondly of it and seeing it featured in The Bear made me eager to see this charming Scandinavian city full of great food for myself. We visited right before Christmas, a festive albeit freezing time to visit—think impressively short days spent finding any way to warm up. Despite the Nordic chill, we truly loved Copenhagen and hope to return sooner than later.

Things to do in Copenhagen
Canal cruises
A wonderful introduction to the city, these short cruises are widely available and meander through the canals of Copenhagen with commentary along the way.
The Little Mermaid
Although she is often ranked one of the world's most underwhelming tourist attractions, I think she is adorable and worth the visit. The statue is located on the waterfront of a park, great for walking around.
Sauna Nor
Located right next to the water in Nordhavn, this tiny sauna house offers guests the unique experience to participate in 'Saunagus'—a holistic sauna experience led by an expert guide. As the sauna gets hotter, guests can take a polar plunge in the harbor between breathwork.
Freetown Christiania
This self-governing Bohemian commune is a trip in itself, worth visiting for the history, quirkiness, and opportunity to pick up unique and locally crafted souvenirs.
Carlsberg Brewery Tour
Home to one of Denmark's most iconic exports, the Carlsberg Brewery offers visitors the chance to get up close with the brewing process, learn their unique history, and taste the final product.
Tivoli Gardens
Right in the center of the city, you will find an amusement park dating back to 1842, a favorite of locals and visitors alike. In summer, it is a great way to spend a long day, and in winter, it transforms into a magical Christmas wonderland.
Christmas markets
If visiting during the festive season, you will find no shortage of Christmas markets throughout Copenhagen. Enjoy mulled wine, grilled sausages, and Nordic delicacies as you stroll amongst local vendors. Great for souvenirs!
Day trip to Malmö
If staying for an extended period, take a day trip to the Swedish city of Malmö via the Øresund Bridge, which impressively connects the two Scandinavian countries. Malmö is full of cute shops, cafés, and places to see.

Pluto: Featured in the Michelin guide, this lively restaurant offers a fantastic seasonal tasting menu featuring fresh and local ingredients.
Københavns Bageri: A modern café and bakery that has become a local favorite. Be sure to arrive early before they sell out of their iconic cardamom buns.
Norrlyst: Located in a quiet underground venue on a corner of the city center, this spot is also featured in the Michelin guide, and we thought the set menu was excellent.
Warpigs Brewpub: This laid-back eatery has a great selection of warming BBQ meats and filling sides alongside craft beers. Great for a cold winter day!
Selma: This trendy spot serves up a variety of the iconic Danish smørrebrød alongside craft beer.
Restaurant RADIO: Another from the Michelin guide, this highly-rated spot features a rotating seasonal tasting menu in a vibrant atmosphere.
Need to know
Although it is not the largest city in Europe, there is tons to do! It could be done in a short period of time, but if you have the extra days, it is a great place to slow down and take it all in.
Copenhagen is well-connected by public transit as well as being quite walkable. No car necessary!
Winter brings a slower pace of life. The days are short, and with that comes amended hours for places like small shops and grocery stores. Restaurants, bars, and Christmas markets stay open later.
