If you told me 10 years ago I would call the United Arab Emirates home, I probably would have laughed, and likely couldn't point it out on a map. From the moment we landed in this hilly city, I was enamored with it. From beautiful beaches to winding cobblestone streets, Lisbon is full of everything you need for a great European holiday. Whether you want to dance the night away, indulge in great regional cuisine or explore historic sites, Lisbon has something for everyone.

Vanuatu is nicknamed “the land of smiles” and it doesn’t take long to figure out why. This remote volcanic archipelago in the South Pacific is one of the most unique destinations I’ve visited. Made up of 83 islands, there is no shortage of relaxing beaches, colorful snorkeling and immersive culture. For the adrenaline junkies, scuba diving and volcano hiking are just two of many excursion options. Only three hours from Auckland and four hours from Sydney, Vanuatu is a great option for our friends in Oceania looking for somewhere new to explore.

For being a small island nation, Fiji has a lot to offer. It can be challenging to navigate the many different island resort and tour offerings. We wanted something a bit different and chose to rent a car and explore the biggest and most populous island, Viti Levu. The main hub of the Fijian archipelago, Viti Levu has no shortage of beautiful beaches, adventurous outdoor activities, great food and unique culture.

I fell in love with Sydney instantaneously. It has everything I look for in a city break: walkable neighborhoods, amazing beaches, great food, creative cocktail bars and no shortage of tourist attractions. And don’t forget the great weather! Sydney is a great place to visit, either as a standalone vacation or part of a more robust Pacific itinerary.

The North Island of New Zealand will always be a special place to me as I was fortunate enough to call it my home base for 18 months. Though the South Island is forever a hot spot for tourism, the North Island is full of opportunities for adventure. From temperate rainforests to black-sand beaches to active volcanoes, there is no shortage of exciting things to see and do. This three-week itinerary was designed as a summertime holiday.

The first time I visited Venice was just for the day, and I knew I had to return. My second trip was special in many ways. Notably, it was during me and my now-husband's first overseas adventure together, and it was during the historic "Acqua Alta" of 2019. Despite the daily high tide keeping us inside for an hour or so, the city was still magical. Nothing can dampen Venice's historic charm, the labyrinth of alleyways and delicious food.

I have been fortunate enough to call the island of Skopelos my home for the summer and wanted to share the magic of the Sporades island chain with the world. From turquoise waters to green pine trees, traditional villages to gourmet food and everything in between — there is something for everyone on this vibrant chain of islands. The Sporades are great for travelers looking for a less-crowded but every-bit-fulfilling Greek adventure!

I was fortunate enough to call San Juan home for eight months, and I reflect fondly on my time there. Puerto Rico is truly like no other place I have been — it is a crossroads of Afro-Caribbean, Spanish and American cultures blended together by hardships, national pride and a vibrant identity. San Juan is rich in history and opportunities to learn and reflect, as well as great beaches and an incredible rainforest just a short drive away. And don’t forget the amazing food!

I can’t think of a better place to start writing about Southeast Asia than one of my favorite cities, Hanoi. When someone asks me what my favorite country is, without hesitation I say "Vietnam." Hanoi captures the essence of everything that makes Vietnam special — incredible food, kind people, rich history and unique culture.

Luang Prabang is a destination that stands out in my memory for its beauty and charm. A mix of old and new, this ancient city has something for everyone. Home to stunning natural landscapes, distinct Lao-French architecture, delicious street food and informative museums — you won't have trouble immersing yourself in this tranquil city.
