Need to know

Durango is a year-round destination, but pack accordingly — weather can shift quickly, especially if you're headed into the mountains. Spring and fall are quieter with mild temps, while summer offers festivals and rafting, and winter brings snow sports at nearby Purgatory Resort. Be sure to book train tickets and hot spring passes in advance during peak seasons. Downtown is walkable, but having a car is helpful for exploring surrounding sights like Mesa Verde, the San Juan Skyway or a Four Corners day trip. Lastly, don’t forget to hydrate — Durango sits at over 6,500 feet, so altitude adjustment is real!
