Advisor - Discovering Iceland: Adventure Through Fire and Ice
Curator’s statement

Iceland is one of those destinations that feels completely different from anywhere else in the world. The landscapes change constantly—from waterfalls and volcanoes to glaciers, black sand beaches, and geothermal lagoons—which makes every drive feel exciting. I loved how easy it was to combine adventure, relaxation, and incredible scenery all in one trip. Whether you road trip independently or visit as part of a cruise itinerary, Iceland is a destination that leaves a lasting impression.

Where to stay

Unlock perks by contacting Days With Bethan to book your trip.

Day 1: Arriving in Reykjavik & Blue Lagoon relaxation

After arriving in Reykjavík, head straight to the famous Blue Lagoon to relax after your flight. The warm geothermal water surrounded by lava fields is the perfect introduction to Iceland and instantly makes you feel like you’ve arrived somewhere unique. I recommend booking your lagoon entry in advance as time slots can sell out quickly, especially during busy seasons. Spend the evening exploring Reykjavik’s colorful streets, cafés, and waterfront before enjoying dinner in the city.

Day 2: Waterfalls & Iceland’s South Coast

Today is all about Iceland’s dramatic South Coast scenery. Visit Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the waterfall in good conditions, before continuing to the powerful Skógafoss. One of my favorite stops was Reynisfjara, with its black sand beach and striking basalt columns. Iceland’s weather changes quickly, so waterproof layers and comfortable shoes are essential for this day.

Day 3: Glacier lagoons & Diamond Beach

Drive further east towards Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where giant icebergs float through icy blue water surrounded by mountains and glaciers. It genuinely feels surreal seeing seals swimming between the icebergs while chunks of ice slowly drift toward the ocean. Just across the road is Diamond Beach, where pieces of ice wash onto the black sand, creating one of Iceland’s most photographed landscapes. Booking glacier tours or boat excursions in advance is a great idea here, especially during peak travel months.

Day 4: The Golden Circle Route

Spend today exploring Iceland’s famous Golden Circle route starting at Þingvellir National Park, where you can walk between tectonic plates and experience one of Iceland’s most historic locations. Continue to the geothermal area of Geysir before stopping at the impressive Gullfoss waterfall. I loved how accessible this route was while still feeling incredibly dramatic and scenic. If you prefer not to drive, this is also an easy day tour to book from Reykjavik.

Day 5: Reykjavik culture & Northern Lights

Spend your final day enjoying more of Reykjavik’s relaxed atmosphere, boutique shops, and waterfront views. I recommend visiting Hallgrímskirkja for panoramic city views before stopping at local bakeries or cafés around the city center.

Depending on the season, ending the trip with a Northern Lights tour is unforgettable and easily became one of the highlights of my Iceland experience. If visiting Iceland via cruise, this is also a great way to experience multiple regions while still enjoying the comfort and convenience of unpacking only once.

Need to know

  • I highly recommend booking activities in advance in Iceland, especially lagoon entries, glacier tours, and Northern Lights excursions, as it makes the trip much easier to organize and helps avoid missing out during busy periods.

  • Renting a car is ideal for flexibility, but Iceland is also a fantastic destination to experience by cruise, allowing you to visit multiple regions while still enjoying the comfort of the ship between destinations.

  • No matter the season, always pack waterproof layers and comfortable shoes because conditions can change quickly throughout the day.
