Curator’s statement
Santorini is one of those destinations that genuinely looks exactly like the photos—whitewashed buildings, blue domes, and incredible caldera views everywhere you turn. I especially love visiting Santorini by cruise because arriving to the island by sea is such an unforgettable experience. Even with just one day in port, you can experience amazing food, scenic viewpoints, and the relaxed Greek island atmosphere. It’s one of my favorite Mediterranean cruise stops because every corner feels beautiful and memorable.

Things to do in Santorini

Explore Oia Village
Oia is one of the most famous areas in Santorini and it’s easy to see why. The narrow streets, cliffside cafés, and iconic blue domes make it perfect for wandering without a strict plan. I recommend arriving earlier in the day before the busiest crowds from cruise ships and sunset visitors arrive.
Walk from Fira to Imerovigli
One of my favorite ways to experience Santorini is walking along the caldera path between Fira and Imerovigli. The views across the sea and volcanic cliffs are incredible the entire way, and there are so many photo spots and cafés to stop at along the route.
Watch the sunset over the Caldera
Santorini sunsets genuinely live up to the hype. Whether you watch from Oia, a restaurant terrace, or even from your cruise ship sailing away, the colors over the caldera are unforgettable and easily one of the highlights of visiting the island.
Visit a Santorini winery
Santorini’s volcanic landscape creates unique wines that are very different from other Greek islands. I loved visiting local wineries for tastings with caldera views, especially because it combines scenery with a more relaxed experience away from the busiest tourist areas.
Relax at Perissa Beach
Perissa Beach is known for its black volcanic sand and laid-back beach clubs. It’s a great option if you want a slower afternoon after exploring the cliffside villages earlier in the day.
Arrive by cruise ship
Honestly, one of the best parts of Santorini is arriving into the port by cruise ship. Seeing the white buildings layered across the cliffs from the water feels incredible and gives you a completely different perspective of the island before even stepping ashore.
Places to eat & drink in Santorini

Ammoudi Fish Tavern
This is one of my favorite places for fresh seafood right by the water below Oia. The atmosphere feels very traditional and relaxed, especially for a long lunch after exploring the island.
Metaxi Mas
A great option if you want authentic Greek food away from the busiest tourist areas. The portions are generous and the setting feels more local compared to many restaurants around the caldera.
PK Cocktail Bar
I loved stopping here for drinks with caldera views, especially around sunset. It’s one of those places where you could easily sit for hours just enjoying the atmosphere.
Argo Restaurant
Located in Fira, this is a great spot for dinner overlooking the caldera. The views are incredible at night once the lights across the cliffs begin to glow.
Lolita’s Gelato
Perfect for a quick stop while walking through Oia. The pistachio gelato quickly became one of my favorite treats on the island.
Need to know
Santorini can get extremely busy during peak cruise season, so I recommend planning your day in advance and booking restaurants or excursions early where possible.
Comfortable shoes are essential because many streets are steep, uneven and involve a lot of walking.
If arriving by cruise ship, allow extra time for the cable car or tender process back to the port.
Santorini is also a fantastic stop to combine with other Greek islands on a Mediterranean cruise itinerary, especially for travelers wanting iconic scenery without needing a long stay on the island.
