Advisor - Rio de Janeiro: Beaches, Views & Brazilian Culture in 3 Days
Curator’s statement

Rio de Janeiro has such an energetic atmosphere that instantly makes the city feel exciting and unforgettable. I loved how every day could include beaches, mountains, incredible viewpoints, and amazing food all within the same city. The scenery feels iconic everywhere you go, especially with the coastline and mountains surrounding Rio from every angle. It’s one of those destinations that feels vibrant from morning until late at night, whether you’re relaxing on the beach or exploring the city.

Where to stay

Unlock perks by contacting Days With Bethan to book your trip.

Day 1: Copacabana, Ipanema & beach culture

Start your trip by experiencing Rio’s famous beach lifestyle around Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach. Spend the morning walking along the promenade before stopping at one of the beachfront cafés or kiosks for fresh juice and Brazilian snacks. I loved how lively the atmosphere felt throughout the day, with music, volleyball, and locals enjoying the beach from early morning until sunset.

In the evening, stay around Ipanema to watch the sunset and enjoy Rio’s relaxed but vibrant nightlife scene.

Day 2: Christ the Redeemer & Sugarloaf Mountain

Today is all about Rio’s most iconic viewpoints, starting with Christ the Redeemer. Seeing the city from above really shows how dramatic Rio’s landscape is, with beaches, mountains, and the coastline all surrounding the city.

Later, head to Sugarloaf Mountain and take the cable car for incredible panoramic views, especially close to sunset.

I definitely recommend booking tickets in advance because these attractions are some of the busiest in Brazil.

Day 3: Santa Teresa & local experiences

Spend your final day exploring Santa Teresa, one of Rio’s most creative and colorful neighborhoods filled with cafés, street art, and historic streets. I loved wandering through this area because it feels completely different from the beachside parts of the city and gives you a more local side of Rio. Stop by the famous Escadaria Selarón steps before finishing the evening with Brazilian food and live music.

Rio feels energetic everywhere you go, which makes even simple evenings here memorable.

Need to know

Rio is a destination where planning ahead really helps, especially for major attractions like Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain. I’d recommend using registered tours or trusted transport options when exploring different areas of the city, particularly at night or for first-time visitors.

The city is very walkable around the beach areas, but traffic can take longer than expected, so leave extra time between activities.

Rio is also a fantastic cruise stop in South America, giving travelers the chance to experience the city’s iconic scenery while combining it with other destinations along the Brazilian coastline.
