Advisor - Explore the Beauty of the Philippines: Coron, Palawan
Curator’s statement

The Philippines, my Motherland, has so much to offer besides its rich culture and tradition. It has an abundance of beautiful beaches, enchanting mountains, and stunning scenery. Coron is truly the crown jewel of the Philippines. If you love beaches, astounding rock formations, and breathtaking warm, clear waters, this is a must-visit place. You’ll definitely find yourself falling in love with Coron. It is less busy and more laid-back than its counterpart, El Nido. Amenities are amazing but don’t have a huge online presence. You need to be in the know to get the good stuff. I can help you there!

Things to do in Coron

Coron, Palawan, is a tropical paradise offering an extensive array of activities for every type of traveler.

Island-hopping adventures

The island-hopping tours in Coron are truly the highlight, allowing you to immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of this archipelago. You can choose between full-day group tours, perfect for meeting fellow travelers, or opt for a private tour for a more personalized experience. These tours will take you to numerous iconic sites, each offering a unique encounter with nature’s wonders. Top locations are the following.

Kayangan Lake

Often hailed as the cleanest lake in the Philippines, Kayangan Lake is a must-visit. Its stunning brackish water, a mix of saltwater and freshwater, is crystal clear, revealing the dramatic limestone cliffs that surround it. Swimming here is an ethereal experience, with underwater rock formations and the sunlight filtering through the water creating a magical ambiance.

Pukaway Cave Underground Lake

For the more adventurous, Pukaway Cave offers an intriguing opportunity for snorkeling or free-diving in its underground lake. The dimly lit cave, with its unique rock formations, provides a sense of mystery and wonder as you explore its hidden depths.

Cinco Ninos luxury sailing tour

For an unparalleled and luxurious experience, consider a private sailing tour with Cinco Ninos. As the only trimaran tour available in Coron, it promises an exclusive and comfortable way to explore the islands.

Imagine gliding across the turquoise waters, enjoying gourmet meals, and discovering secluded coves, all in the comfort of a spacious and elegant vessel. This is perfect for those seeking a more upscale and intimate island-hopping adventure.

Engaging land tours

Beyond its pristine waters, Coron also offers captivating land-based excursions that provide a different perspective of the island’s charm and culture.

Maquinit Hot Springs

After a day of exploring, unwind and rejuvenate at the Maquinit Hot Springs. These natural saltwater hot springs are nestled amidst a mangrove forest, offering a unique and soothing experience. The therapeutic warm waters are perfect for relaxing your muscles and unwinding under the stars.

Cashew farm visits

Discover the local agricultural heritage by visiting a cashew farm. Here, you can learn about the cultivation and processing of cashews, a popular local delicacy. It’s also an excellent opportunity to purchase fresh and roasted cashews directly from the source, making for a delicious souvenir.

Calauit Safari Park

For a truly unique wildlife encounter, head to the Calauit Safari Park. This sanctuary is home to a diverse array of African and local wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, impalas, and various deer species, roaming freely in a sprawling natural habitat. It’s an unexpected and exciting addition to your Coron itinerary.

Mount Tapyas climb

For panoramic views of Coron Town and the surrounding islands, challenge yourself with a climb up Mount Tapyas. With 689 steps leading to the summit, the ascent can be a workout, but the reward is a breathtaking vista, especially at sunrise or sunset. The clouds often appear to be within reach, creating a surreal and unforgettable scene.

Adrenaline-fueled watersports

For thrill-seekers and adventure junkies, Coron also caters to your need for excitement with a variety of exhilarating watersports.

  • Parasailing: Soar high above the turquoise waters and enjoy unparalleled aerial views of the islands and the vast expanse of the sea with a thrilling parasailing experience.

  • Jet Skiing: Feel the rush of the wind and the spray of the ocean as you zoom across the waves on a powerful jet ski, exploring the coastline at your own pace.

Souvenir shopping

Before you depart from this island paradise, make sure to visit Coron Souvenirs & Gift Shop, conveniently located on Coron-Busuanga Road. This shop offers a wide selection of affordable souvenirs and gifts to commemorate your trip. A popular choice among visitors are the beautiful freshwater and South Sea pearls, which make for exquisite and lasting mementos of your time in Palawan.

Remember to bring cash, as some smaller establishments and souvenir shops may not accept card payments.

Places to eat & drink in Coron

Dining & drinks

  • Real Street Food Hall (AKA B Complex): A vibrant food hall on Real Street offering a diverse range of local, artisanal, and multicultural cuisines. Try the Kinilaw (cubed raw fish tossed in vinegar with calamansi juice). Enjoy live bands in the evenings. Cash only.

  • Karl’s BBQ Grill: More than just BBQ, it’s just off the main road and San Augustin Street. This spot serves a variety of Filipino dishes and delicacies. I highly recommend the grilled pork belly (Liempo with Rice).

  • Ramen Sakura: Experience authentic Japanese flavors, with their Tonkotsu Ramen being a specialty. Located on Real Street and just a tuk-tuk ride away from any hotels.

  • Pacifico Coron Bar and Restaurant: A multi-cuisine restaurant located on the main road, Coron-Busuanga Rd, catering to all taste buds. Don’t miss their refreshing mango shake.

  • Miso Korean BBQ: My go-to place for Samgyeopsal, with gluten-free options available.

  • Epic Cafe Coron: Another find on Real Street, perfect for a continental and hearty breakfast, paired with delicious coffee. It’s cozy and quiet.

Need to know

Coron experiences two distinct seasons: dry (December to May) and wet/rainy (June to November). The dry season offers excellent snorkeling visibility but is the peak tourist season, leading to crowds. The wet/rainy season, particularly October and November, is less crowded and more comfortably cool.

To reach Coron, you can fly from Manila or Cebu with several airlines. For the ultimate island-hopping adventure, Cinco Ninos Leisure Corp provides the most spacious and luxurious Trimaran boat. Its open, wide deck, hammock nets for sunbathing, and a bar ensure a stylish and comfortable travel experience. Private or shared tour available.
