Advisor - Solo Adventure in Lisbon: 3-Day Itinerary
Curator’s statement

Lisbon is so special to me as it was the city where I took my first solo adventure. The locals are incredibly welcoming, the city is so walkable, and every day offers something different. You can wander through centuries of history in Alfama, shop highly curated local boutiques, sip crisp green wine, and even squeeze in a beach day. It’s the perfect city for a quick getaway and an ideal home base for unforgettable day trips.

Day 1: Explore historic Lisbon

Praça do Comércio

Start your day in Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest and most atmospheric neighborhood, where it’s easy to wander at your own pace.

Visit the Lisbon Cathedral, then get lost in the winding streets on your way to Miradouro de Santa Luzia, one of the best viewpoints in the city.

Hop on the iconic Tram 28 for a classic Lisbon experience and an effortless way to see multiple neighborhoods.

For lunch, choose a cozy local spot and enjoy some of Portugal’s incredible seafood—dining solo here feels relaxed and welcoming. Afterward, treat yourself to a pastel de nata (honestly, one a day is a must).

Spend the afternoon exploring the boutiques and cafés of Chiado, perfect for a little shopping and people-watching.

In the evening, enjoy a soulful Fado performance—one of the best ways to experience Lisbon on your own.

Day 2: Belem & LX Factory

Miradouro de Santa Luzia

Start your day with a scenic ride along the river to Belém, one of Lisbon’s most historic and picturesque neighborhoods.

Visit the stunning Jerónimos Monastery, stroll along the waterfront past Belém Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries, then reward yourself with a warm pastel de nata from Pastéis de Belém—the original and still the best.

In the afternoon, head to LX Factory, a lively creative complex filled with boutiques, bookstores, street art, and trendy cafés—perfect for browsing solo, grabbing lunch, and soaking up the local energy before staying for dinner in this vibrant, social setting.

Day 3: Sintra & Cascais day trip

National Palace of Pena

Spend your day exploring the fairytale town of Sintra, an easy train ride from Lisbon.

Tour the colorful Pena Palace, wander the enchanting grounds of Quinta da Regaleira, and enjoy a relaxed lunch in the historic town center.

In the late afternoon, continue on to the coastal town of Cascais for a sunset stroll along the marina and a seafood dinner by the ocean before taking the train back to Lisbon in the evening—the perfect way to balance castles with coastal vibes on a solo adventure.

Need to know

  • Lisbon is very walkable but also quite hilly, so comfortable walking shoes are essential.

  • The city is considered very safe for solo travelers, though you should always watch for pickpockets in busy areas and popular viewpoints.

  • Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s helpful to carry a little cash for small cafés and bakeries.

  • Dinner is typically pretty late, around 8–10 pm.

  • Visiting viewpoints early or at sunset offers the best experience, and heading to Sintra early helps avoid the crowds.

  • If you have the opportunity to be in Lisbon on Tuesday or Saturday, the Lisbon Flea Market (Feira da Ladra) is a must for any vintage and antique lovers.
