Curator’s statement
Plenty of people think of Hawai’i for a babymoon, but for those seeking something more unusual and off-the-beaten path, the small island of Lānaʻi is the perfect babymoon location. It offers all the sandy beaches, beautiful pools, and luxury of other Hawaiian Islands but with the small charm and adventure that only an island of 3000 people can offer (Larry Ellison famously bought this island, so it still has many of the modern amenities that an island of this size typically wouldn’t have). As soon as you land on the chartered flight (included in your stay at the Four Seasons Lanai or Sensei Lanai), you feel worlds away and are embraced by the warm hosts of the only two resorts on the island.

Things to do in Lānaʻi

Sunset cruise: This is not your typical sunset cruise. This boat ride follows the coastline of Lānaʻi and features some truly awe-inspiring >1000ft cliffs that come right up to the water.
Observatory tour: Pick a clear night and book an observatory tour at the Four Seasons. Because this is such a small island, it is particularly dark and the views of the stars are unmatched. The telescope itself is a site to be seen!
Spa treatment with private hale at Sensei: I’ve had spa treatments at a lot of luxury resorts and few have come close the the private hale situation here. Each spa treatment takes place in a private hale with private steam room, shower, tub, patio, onsen, and multiple sitting areas. You can also pay extra to rent these out before or after your treatment (or for the day) to enjoy the amenities.
Forest bathing: Among the many activities offered when you stay at Sensei is forest bathing with the property’s naturalist. The gardens and horticulture here are spectacular and it’s a beautiful experience to practice this Japanese art (even for those that may be new or skeptical about the practice).
Sound bath: Another great activity at Sensei is a guided meditative sound bath. This is particularly fun while pregnant because you might feel your baby react to the sounds!
Onsens: Sensei has an incredible collection of onsens nestled within its lush and diverse gardens. These are each private and require no reservations.
Places to eat & drink in Lānaʻi

The Nobu’s: Each one of the properties has their own Nobu with a unique atmosphere and menu. The one at the Four Seasons Beach Resort offers beautiful water views, while Sensei’s Nobu provides a quiet, secluded vibe. It’s worth experiencing both during your stay.
Koele Garden bar: The garden bar at the Sensei offers a relaxed atmosphere to take in the lush landscape and a good non-alcoholic cocktail
Ice Cream Sandwiches at Four Seasons: The ice cream sandwiches at Four Seasons Beach Resort are the perfect replacement for a poolside cocktail.
Views: This restaurant is right off the golf course and perched on the hill for exceptional views of the water. A great spot to enjoy lunch.
Need to know
Lary Ellison houses an impressive art collection at Sensei from a variety of famous sculptures and painters. It’s worth going on a guided or self-guided tour just to see the art.
Most travelers opt for the quick flight from Honolulu, but there is also a ferry you can take from Maui if you want to combine with another destination in Hawai’i.
