For your next golf trip, you should consider Mesquite, NV and St. George, UT. Skip Vegas and drive straight to Mesquite—it’s just over an 80-minute drive from Las Vegas. Another 40 minutes beyond Mesquite will bring you to St. George.

A few years ago, my family took a generational trip to China. When traveling for golf, what I’m looking for is scenery and a challenging course. This would be the perfect location for any milestone event where you can pair in rounds of golf.

If you’ve been to Las Vegas as many times as I have over the years, there is only so much you can do during the day to kill time. Sure, you can hang out by the pool, gamble or do a helicopter tour, but have you considered golf?

Las Vegas is home to several top golf courses. When it’s not blistering hot in the summer months, the weather in Las Vegas can be ideal for a round of golf. Being a resident of Washington DC, I have had the pleasure of attending many Presidential Inaugurations. A Presidential Inauguration is more than standing on the mall and watching the ceremony. Sure, you can just book a ticket to Washington, DC and call your local member of Congress in hopes that you secure a ticket, or you can go with a carefully curated plan. Hawai'i is a top destination for golf for travelers in the United States. When I think about golf in Hawai'i, four courses come to mind, three of which are in Maui. There are plenty of golf courses in Hawai'i, but these are must-play courses. The courses are Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course, Ka’anapali Kai, Kapalua Golf — (The Bay and Plantation Course) located at the Ritz Carlton Maui and Ocean Course at Hokuala (Kauai). You may have chosen one island or the other. Although Maui is a less than 60-minute flight to Kauai, it's best to base which golf course to play based on your trip location.

Outside of three months (December, January, February), the weather in South Carolina is ideal golf weather. With its coastal views, South Carolina is a great golf destination. Three areas that come to mind for golf in South Carolina are Kiawah Island (less than an hour drive from Charleston), Hilton Head Island (less than an hour drive from Savannah) and Isles of Palms (32 minutes from Charleston). Tied to these three areas are three great golf resorts with enough activity for everyone. The three golf locations in South Carolina that I would recommend are Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort (Hilton Head Island) and Wild Dunes Resort (Isles of Palms). In August of 2023, I did a site inspection while staying at the beautiful Four Seasons Resort at Syan in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. As you may know, the Balinese people are the most welcoming and hospitable people you will encounter and the staff at the hotel reflects that. These cruises allow you to golf multiple rounds at world renowned courses, while your traveling partner can still take regular tour excursions. It’s not specifically built for golf; you still can enjoy a regular cruise if you are not a golfer. You would never think that the Brandywine Valley area, which consists of West Chester, PA, Kennett Square, PA, Wilmington, DE and more, would be a destination of choice. I didn't think so either. Eastern Shore, MD, Middleburg, VA, Washington, VA, and Rehoboth, DE are my go-to's. You can always use an escape from the city. Fortunately for you, there are plenty of options. Between an hour to three hours, via car, from Washington, DC, you can reach the ocean, the bay, or the country. These are easy drives. Three of which are family-friendly. Pack up the car and take a road trip; whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a family getaway, there are plenty of options.

As I approach the milestone age of 50, I start to think about the bucket list I created in my thirties. I recently returned from the Canadian Grand Prix after staying at the MoneyGram Haas F1® Team Hospitality Suite through F1® Experiences and wanted to share my experience. There are different levels of hospitality, Formula 1 Paddock Club™ (which is a general hospitality suite) and Formula 1 Paddock Club™ (typically above the garages). Not all races have a paddock club or hospitality suites. Before setting your sights on the Formula 1 Paddock Club™, check on its availability. Within the Formula 1 Paddock Club™ are individual hospitality suites hosted by each of the F1® teams. Most I suspect are given or sold to corporate partners. When I booked my experience, there were a few teams on the list and MoneyGram Haas F1® was one of the hospitality suites available.

Don’t get too hung up on which team suite is available, it’s the experience that counts. The only difference will be the guest speakers and the garage tour, otherwise the seats, views and hospitality (food, drinks, and access) will be the same.

The next level beyond the team suites are the Garage Suites and Champions Club. The garage suite is also limited to certain races, they did not have this at the Canadian Grand Prix, but these are suites with the view of the team garage or near the garages. The Champions Club, is separate from the Paddack Club and has a different view. More on the views later.

In 2018, I did the unexpected, my wife and I decided to escape our families and travel for Thanksgiving. Look, we all work hard, we get these two extra days for holidays, so why not make a vacation out of it instead of traveling back to a boring and cold hometown.
