Each destination offers irreplaceable experiences and local restaurants serve food reflecting actual regional heritage using ingredients from local farms. This isn’t curated authenticity for tourism. These communities continue their traditions whether visitors come or not, making October perfect for witnessing genuine cultural celebrations while enjoying brilliant fall colors and seasonal foods that connect you to the place through taste and tradition.

The Ligurian coast from Genoa to Santa Margherita Liguria is making the top of my list of favorite Italian regions because it gives you everything I love about Italy without the overwhelm. You get real maritime culture here, not the tourist version. I’ve watched locals fiercely protect what makes this place special, and I respect that. I suggest the Capitolo Riviera hotel because it’s right between Genoa’s city life and the beautiful coastal towns of Portofino and Santa Margherita Liguria. If you prefer being right on the beach, I’d suggest the Excelsior Palace Hotel or Grand Hotel Bristol in Santa Margherita Liguria instead. Both give you direct beach access and that classic Italian Riviera elegance while keeping you connected to everything I’m about to show you. What I love most here is that there are endless possibilities of things to do and see within a short train ride or even a walk along the coast. I only recommend adding Cinque Terre if it’s truly a bucket list item for you. This region gives you equal beauty with way more authentic experiences and actual space to connect with the place and its people.

Innsbruck is special because it’s not trying to be anything other than what it is: a real city where people live, work, study, and climb in one of the most beautiful settings on earth. The combination of serious mountains, genuine local culture, and urban amenities creates something you can’t find anywhere else. During my six months living in Naples, Italy, I was able to visit the beautiful town of Sorrento just a handful of times. Every time I remember being pleasantly surprised at how magical and lively this town was. It’s hard to be amazed when you’re already surrounded by Italian architecture and scenery everyday but Sorrento continues to be one of my favorite towns and a must-visit place for me. There’s so many things to see and enjoy in the wonderful paesino.

What makes Ischia so special is how it mixes natural beauty, ancient history and modern beach resort amenities into one idyllic island. Its volcanic origins provide natural thermal springs perfect for relaxing spa treatments. But you can also explore impressive historic castles, villages dotted with pastel-hued houses and excellent dining thanks to Ischia’s locally-grown produce and seafood. With its laidback vibe and plethora of activities, it’s easy to see why Ischia has been a favored island escape for centuries.

I recommend visiting Ischia in shoulder season – April through June and September through October – when the weather is pleasant and crowds are smaller than summer. Hotel rates also tend to be cheaper.

Park City is one of my favorite places to visit in Utah. It has beautiful panoramic views in both winter and summer. I always love to go in the summer to experience the green mountains and wildflowers. It also is home to some of the best food from quick apres-ski to fine-dining restaurants!

I’ve adored Sorrento since visiting while living in Naples. Now I suggest it to travelers for centrally experiencing Campania’s very best while soaking up true dolce vita vibes.

With our vibrant ski culture that draws winter sports lovers from around the globe, Utah provides a special blend of alpine awe, recharging powder days and friendly mountain vibes you won't find anywhere else!

During my six months living in Naples, I felt I truly had fallen in love with the region of Campania in every way. I had so many new experiences every week and loved every moment. Even after my time there, I felt there was even more to discover. Naples is filled with endless activities and food to try making it one of my all-time favorite places to travel. From its friendly people, unique landscape and architecture and of course the best pizza in the world, Naples is one of the best spots to visit in Italy.

Matera, Italy, is a city of profound beauty and historical significance, making it a mesmerizing destination even for a day visit. When I first visited Matera, I was immediately struck by the city's expansive size and the intricate labyrinth of streets, each turn revealing more of its enchanting character. The city extends far beyond its famed Sassi, the ancient cave dwellings, it's a place where history is etched into every stone and alleyway. Matera's unique landscape and architecture have not only captivated travelers but also filmmakers, serving as a dramatic backdrop for blockbuster movies like "Wonder Woman" and the James Bond series. This cinematic connection adds to Matera's allure, inviting visitors to walk through scenes straight out of a movie. Puglia is an under-the-radar region in southern Italy often overlooked by tourists. But with its charming towns, amazing beaches, fantastic food and wine, and wealth of history, Puglia has so much to offer. Living in Puglia for three months, I was constantly in awe at how unique and beautiful this region is. Located in the "heel" of Italy's boot, this sun-soaked region is worth discovering.

Florence is such an engaging city for families! Historic landmarks like the Duomo cathedral and Ponte Vecchio bridge fascinate kids. Renowned museums including the Uffizi, expose them to inspiring art. Scaling the awe-inspiring Brunelleschi Dome makes children feel like brave explorers. The sprawling Boboli Gardens invite playful picnics and discovery. Grand piazzas give little ones plenty of space to burn energy. And there's delicious pizza, pasta and gelato found on every street. With abundant treasures that ignite young minds and hearts, Florence is one of my favorite Italian cities to experience with families. The joy on children’s faces as they connect with history and culture here is truly priceless. Florence brings out the childlike wonder in visitors of all ages.

Having explored many of the national parks, I can say Hawai'i Volcanoes stands out as one-of-a-kind. Nowhere else can you get as close to active volcanoes and lava flows. The raw volcanic landscape here is powerful, unmatched by other parks. This place also deeply connects to Hawai'ian culture. For me, Hawai'i Volcanoes showcases nature's force up close, making it a special park among the nation's finest.

While Rome dazzles year-round, the Eternal City truly comes alive during the Christmas season with abundant holiday cheer and festive traditions on vivid display. Wandering the art-filled streets, one can feel the palpable enchantment emanating from elaborately decorated piazzas, concerts filling majestic churches with carols and the twinkling lights of the city's famed Christmas tree topping the Spanish Steps. The ancient backdrop makes the abundant nativities and holiday markets even more special. Experiencing crowd-free villa tours and candlelit meals between celebrating age-old rituals like Midnight Mass at the Vatican connects you to the deep spirituality Romans carry into the holidays. For an unforgettable festive getaway, I wholeheartedly recommend Rome as a place to savor Christmas charm alongside powerful history.

Lecce, Italy's 'Florence of the South,' stands out for many reasons. Its mix of Baroque beauty, lively streets and delicious food is unique. As a seasoned explorer of Italy, I adore Lecce's elegant yet approachable charm. The city offers a real taste of Italian culture, from meandering through historic streets to savoring local Pasticciotto. Lecce is ideal for both relaxation and adventure, making it a must-visit for authentic Italian experiences.

Having spent five wonderful months living in southeastern Sicily, I found the culture, people, food, gelato, pastries, architecture and beaches there to fully encapsulate the authentic Italian experience for me. The Sicilians I met during my stay deeply inspired me with their infectious energy and unique traditions. Zion National Park has secured its place among my top three all-time favorite national parks due to its remarkable natural wonders and the unforgettable experiences it offers. The exhilaration of hiking Angel's Landing and taking in the panoramic views is unmatched.
