My Story
American expat running a travel business from a surf town in Portugal. Unapologetically on brand.
My Travel Style
Hi, I'm Meagan! The founder of One Shot Wander, a travel business based in Ericeira, Portugal. I wear a few hats—travel advisor, retreat project manager, freelance marketer, and photographer—all rooted in a shared goal: helping people experience travel that feels personal, immersive, and inspiring.
Before launching One Shot Wander, I spent nearly a decade working in corporate international marketing. That experience gave me a strong foundation in storytelling, brand building, and strategy—skills I now use to thoughtfully design travel experiences that feel both elevated and intentional. I’ve always been drawn to places that strike a balance between adventure and stillness—surf towns like Uluwatu, diving in the Maldives, hiking through Patagonia, or setting out on an Antarctic expedition. I specialize in wellness-forward destinations that invite connection with nature, culture, and yourself. My style leans more toward barefoot luxury than traditional five-star glitz—authentic, elevated, and grounded in a true sense of place.
I’ve traveled to all seven continents, and now focus on crafting trips and retreats that are thoughtful, well-designed, and true to each traveler. The kind of experiences that shift something in you—and stay with you long after you’ve unpacked your bags.

Great advisor and really appreciated us being able to get into the room early on our check in day!

Super helpful, I will flag the hotel did have a suite available online but didn't do the automatic upgrade when we checked in so might just want to check with them that they honor those -- our room was still great though so we had no complaints at all.

Meagan was so wonderful to work with. She helped us plan our entire trip, hotel and rental car bookings, restaurant recommendations, and activity planning. When we reached out to her, we only knew we wanted to do a Europe trip around specific dates, and didn't want to visit a place/country we had already been. She did a TON of research based on what we liked/didn't from our previous travels and narrowed it down to two locations to choose from. From there, she chose hotels (again based on research from previous hotels we've stayed in and loved + our budget), and we had all information needed to pick our destination! From there, she helped book hotels, rental cars, and sent an entire list of restaurants/bars and activities to explore. She helped us with private boat rentals for our Lake Como trip which was a highlight of the trip! She also problem solved for us when we were stuck on the runway on our flight to Milan and ended up 4+ hours delayed, sorting out check in with the hotel and rental car.
We will 100% work with Meagan again!

Meagan went above and beyond when creating our itinerary, even including running routes. She took the time to get to know our personalities and preferences so that the trip was truly ours. She was timely with communication in the planning process and when we ran into snags on the trip (cancelled tour, hotel mix up our last night), which was very appreciated. Her recommendations throughout the trip were solid! Our favorite activity was the sauna and fjord swim in Norway and our favorite food was the Loft Michelin restaurant in Copenhagen.

Luxury on the Road: How to Balance Van Life & Boutique Hotels from France to Portugal
Did I ever tell you about the time I went road-tripping across western Europe? Luxury on the road is where freedom meets comfort. A van parked cliffside at sunset one day, a sinking into crisp hotel sheets the next. This guide is all about finding that balance: pairing the freedom of van life with the indulgence of boutique hotel stays as you explore Europe’s southwest coast from France to Portugal. By renting a camper van, the journey becomes the destination—a chance to chase sunsets, linger in hidden coastal towns, and stay wherever the moment feels right. In some places, that might mean parking cliffside with an ocean view and a bottle of local wine. In others, it’s checking into a stylish boutique hotel for a hot shower, soft linens, and maybe a rooftop cocktail. Because true luxury isn’t just about where you stay—it’s about how you travel. And on cross–multi-country road trips, you can have the best of both worlds.

A Month in Morocco: From the Medina to the Mountains
Out of every destination I’ve been to, I’ve received the most mixed reviews about Morocco. Some raved about it, while others warned me: it’s not safe to travel alone as a woman, the harassment is unbearable, don’t even think about renting a car…the list goes on. I’m pleased to share that my experience was the complete opposite of those warnings. I found the people to be incredibly kind and helpful, the scenery to be unbelievable, and the culture to be vibrant and full of history. Morocco gave me everything I could have wanted out of a trip: mountain adventures, a great surf destination with a vibe to match, fascinating traditions, endless shopping, and new learnings at every turn. I spent a full month there and still feel like I only scratched the surface. Pretty much everything I love most about travel came together in one destination—good surf, scenic mountains, interesting culture, and those bohemian vibes I’m always chasing.

Craving the Cotswolds but Don't Have the Time? Try this Countryside Escape Closer to London
Cliveden House felt like stepping into British Royalty — complete with history, scandal and serious luxury. It’s rare to find a countryside escape this close to London that feels so peaceful yet so grand. Between the royal connections, dreamy gardens and one of the best scones I’ve ever had, it was the kind of day that makes you pause and appreciate the beauty around you. I left already planning my return — with my dog and a book about all its scandalous past.

Surrounded by lush rainforest and vibrant rice fields, it offered the ideal mix of adventure, culture and relaxation — from spiritual healing ceremonies to sunrise hikes up Mt. Batur and peaceful afternoons by the infinity pool. The thoughtful hospitality, stunning natural beauty and immersive Balinese experiences made this trip unforgettable.
