When you walk through Kinsale, Ireland, for the first time, you will feel like you're having a technicolor fever dream that has come true. So many bright colors and a sky of pillowy clouds, it's as if the kid in you has been transported to the world of Willy Wonka. There are storefronts of sweet and stunning surprises to satisfy all of your senses.

Some destinations are beautiful. Some are historic. And then there are places like Giant's Causeway—where myth, music, and cinematic scenery collide like the opening chord of a stadium anthem. As we rolled out of Belfast under moody skies and into the emerald countryside, I already knew this wasn’t going to be an ordinary sightseeing day. This was going to be an Epic Rock Adventure—the kind where the destination tells the story before you even arrive.

What happens when your Irish cruise on the Norwegian Star takes part of the same final route as the iconic Titanic? It’s the stuff of legend, and it gave us goosebumps. We were following along Titanic’s maiden voyage from Southampton to Belfast to Cork (which was then Queenstown). We were only skipping Cherbourg. Unreal!

This place shouldn’t exist. The Norwegian fjords don’t feel real. They feel like you’ve gone off the edge of the map… and found what was never meant to be found. Only mentioned in hushed tones. For years, Valley Girl Darlene and I would watch videos of places like this on YouTube, just to relax. And honestly? We thought they were AI. Well… I’ve got news for you. When we approached the heart of the Hjorundfjord, we had either just stepped onto the Holodeck of the Starship Enterprise, or we’re living inside a Matrix of nature’s own design. And Mother? She made a masterpiece. We didn’t just sail through the fjords—we were immersed in them.

Once upon a time, our story opens in Cork, in the emerald heart of Ireland. A lovely lady named Valley Girl Darlene wished to spend a day in a land of castles, secret gardens, and ancient magic. She longed to wander stone paths, breathe in mystical air, and feel like a fairy princess in a kingdom of legends. And so, as any devoted husband with a flair for grand adventures would do, I set aside my practical instincts, straightened my traveling jacket, and escorted my queen to the storied grounds of Blarney Castle. I arrived curious, discerning, and perhaps slightly suspicious of attractions known more for their reputation than their greatness. But every good fairytale needs a doubting Thomas (my middle name) at the gate before the magic can begin.

The morning sun beat down on the shores of Costa Maya as ships lined the horizon and travelers poured onto the pier in search of beaches, bargains, and frozen drinks. But not every traveler comes for the obvious prize. Some of us come chasing legends. Beyond the shops, beyond the crowds, beyond the postcard-perfect water, the jungle was guarding one of the Yucatán’s greatest secrets—the ancient Chacchoben Mayan Ruins. And naturally, that was where Hollywood Greg and Valley Girl Darlene were headed.

Move over, Napa Valley. We headed across the border to the Valle de Guadalupe and L.A. Cetto and La Casa de Doña Lupe Wineries to see if Mexico’s wine mecca could actually compete with California’s best.
