Bahrain is a tiny island nation located nearby Qatar and mostly familiar to those of us that live in the Arabian Gulf. Although it is small it sure does pack a punch-with plenty to do from dining to shopping, historical sites to scenic rooftop views and more. We visited for an extended weekend and really loved our time in the "Pearl of the Gulf."

Exploring Bahrain Fort
Bahrain National Museum: This museum is a great first stop and provides fascinating insight into the history of Bahrain, as well as the GCC, which is much more layered than it seems.
Bahrain Fort: Also known as Qal'at al-Bahrain, this UNESCO World Heritage Site features an impressive Portuguese fort, local history and a quaint cafe.
Bab Al Bahrain Souq: One of Bahrain's oldest and most charming, this labyrinth of shops and stalls is great for an afternoon stroll and souvenir shopping.
The Avenues: This modern waterfront shopping center is situated along Bahrain Bay and is perfect for shopping, dining and enjoying views of the city.
Al Fateh Grand Mosque: One of the largest mosques in the world, this impressive site is full of stunning Islamic architecture to admire.
Shrinathji Shri Krishna Temple: Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this temple dates back to 1817 and is one of the oldest Hindu temples in the region.

Haji's Traditional Cafe
Haji's Traditional Cafe: Quite possibly the most iconic restaurant in Bahrain, this timeless establishment serves fresh and tasty local dishes. We loved the catch of the day.
Byblos: Located at the Four Seasons in Bahrain Bay, this Lebanese restaurant offers the best regional dishes alongside an ocean view.
Alto: Set atop the Downtown Rotana hotel, this rooftop bar offers stunning views of the island. Perfect for sunset!
Coco's Bahrain: This cafe featuring delicious Arabian-fusion dishes has two locations, both of which are typically busy for a reason!
Fusions: Considered one of the best restaurants in Bahrain, this classy establishment reimagines traditional Bahraini dishes in an elegant setting.
Diggers: This local dive attracts folks from all over the world with its Australian theme, European beers and Filipino cover bands. It's a true encapsulation of the GCC's diversity.
Need to know
The best time to visit Bahrain is during the winter, when temperatures cool and the island is alive.
Avoid Ramadan as many eating and drinking establishments are closed in observance of those fasting.
Bahrain has an international airport and can also be reached via bridge from Saudi Arabia.
Bahrain has a large American presence due to a military base, for those of us living in the Gulf and missing home there are multiple 'American' establishments to eat, drink, and mingle!
