Curator’s statement
Stockholm in the winter feels cinematic—snowy streets, candlelit cafés, long cozy dinners, and some of the best pastries and coffee culture anywhere. My stay at Ett Hem made the entire trip feel even more special.

Ett Hem is one of those hotels that people in the design world absolutely adore. It’s intimate and stylish, and it feels far more like staying in a friend’s beautifully curated home than a traditional luxury hotel.

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Stockholm’s elegant Lärkstaden district, Ett Hem perfectly captures the Scandinavian luxury aesthetic—warm minimalism, soft lighting, incredible antiques, and cozy spaces designed for lingering. Every room feels inviting, with thoughtful details at every turn. In the winter especially—when fireplaces are lit, candles glow throughout the house, and snow dusts the streets outside—the entire property feels wrapped in this comforting atmosphere that makes it difficult to leave.

One of the things that makes Ett Hem so special is the way it encourages guests to treat the hotel as if it were their own home. Guests can relax in the library, enjoy a drink in one of the sitting rooms, or unwind in the peaceful courtyard and garden. The hotel also offers a beautiful sauna and wellness area, which feels particularly nice after a day spent exploring the city during the colder months.

The hotel is also perfectly positioned for exploring some of the city's most beautiful neighborhoods. A short walk brings you to Östermalm, known for its elegant architecture, upscale boutiques, and excellent restaurants. Nearby Djurgården is one of Stockholm’s most beautiful green spaces and is perfect for a leisurely walk, especially in fall and winter. The island is home to several of the city’s best museums, including the Vasa Museum and Skansen.
Stockholm also does boutique shopping incredibly well. Scandinavian homeware stores, vintage shops, independent design studios, and beautifully curated fashion boutiques are scattered throughout the city. Many of my favorite afternoons were spent browsing local design shops and discovering emerging Scandinavian brands before settling into a cozy café nearby.
For guests looking for a memorable local experience, I would also recommend taking a boat tour through Stockholm’s archipelago if visiting in the warmer months. The contrast between Stockholm’s historic charm and its contemporary design culture is one of the things that makes the city so unique.
The restaurant scene is creative and refined without being overly formal, and the café culture alone is worth the trip. I spent hours hopping between bakeries and coffee shops for cardamom buns, fresh pastries, and long fika breaks while warming up between sightseeing.

Ett Hem is perfect for travelers wanting a quieter, more intimate luxury experience, and it works especially well for couples, solo travelers, or anyone who appreciates thoughtful design and atmosphere over larger traditional hotels.
