Mobility Travel: The Ark Encounter & Creation Museum

Our four-day Kentucky adventure took us on an unforgettable journey through faith, history, and fellowship as we visited two of the nation's most unique attractions—the Ark Encounter in Williamstown and the Creation Museum in nearby Petersburg.

After arriving in Williamstown, we checked into the Comfort Suites, our home for the next three nights. This hotel is mobility-friendly (and pet-friendly as well). Its convenient location made it the perfect base for exploring Northern Kentucky while providing a comfortable place to relax after each day's adventures.

The Ark Encounter

The highlight of the trip was spending a full day at the Ark Encounter, where we explored the life-sized reconstruction of Noah's Ark. Walking through the massive three-deck structure offered an immersive experience unlike any other, with detailed exhibits, historical displays, beautiful grounds, and opportunities to learn more about the biblical account of the Flood.

Beyond the Ark itself, we also enjoyed visiting the Ararat Ridge Zoo, shopping for unique souvenirs, and simply taking in the impressive craftsmanship of this remarkable attraction. The entire attraction is mobility-friendly, making it easy for my mother to maneuver through all of the property in her power chair.

Our journey continued at the Creation Museum, where interactive exhibits, stunning gardens, engaging presentations, and thought-provoking displays invited us to explore the story of creation and biblical history in a beautiful setting. The museum offered something for every age, combining education, inspiration, and natural beauty into a memorable experience. Once again, the entire property is mobility-friendly, so making our way through everything was easy.

Along the way, we shared wonderful meals, enjoyed scenic drives through the rolling hills of Kentucky, laughed together, took countless photographs, and created memories that will last a lifetime. This trip reminded me that travel is about more than reaching a destination—it's about experiencing new places together and creating stories worth sharing.

Williamstown, Kentucky, is conveniently located approximately 15 minutes from the Ark Encounter and about 45 minutes from the Creation Museum, making it an ideal home base for exploring both attractions.

While Williamstown is a small town with limited entertainment options, it is home to a true local gem—Kellie's Homestead Restaurant. With its warm hospitality, generous portions, and delicious home-style cooking, it's a must-visit dining experience for anyone staying in the area. A must-try is the fried green tomatoes!

One of the highlights of this trip was how accessible each destination proved to be. The attractions, walkways, and facilities were thoughtfully designed to accommodate guests with mobility challenges. Based on our experience, travelers using a walker, mobility scooter, or power wheelchair should find both the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum easy to navigate. Having our mother traveling with us using either her walker or power chair, she was able to do so comfortably, getting to enjoy every part of the experience.
