Curator’s statement
St. Lucia isn’t just another stunning Caribbean island; it’s a place that holds a truly special spot in my heart—after all, it’s where my partner and I celebrated our 10th anniversary! What made that trip so memorable wasn’t just the jaw-dropping scenery, but the genuine, friendly spirit of the locals who shared their island with us. The moment you arrive, you feel the incredible local vibes, making it feel less like a tropical vacation and more like a warm, welcome home.

The best way to start your adventure is by gazing up at the Pitons. These twin volcanic spires are breathtaking and define the island’s west coast—it’s honestly one of the most stunning sights I’ve ever witnessed. The island boasts amazing temperatures all year, typically ranging from 73 F to 87 F (23–31 degrees Celsius). You’ll always have a perfect day to explore, but just know that September and October tend to be the wettest months on average. You can spend your mornings hitting the beautiful beaches for some world-class snorkeling before jumping into a volcano exploration and mud bath—how often do you get to say you did that on vacation? The island is home to Sulphur Springs, which is famously known as the world’s only drive-in volcano! It’s an absolute must-do, giving you safe, easy access to steaming vents and, of course, the therapeutic, mineral-rich mud baths.

If you’re a nature lover, the interior of St. Lucia is an absolute jungle paradise. You’ll find tons of beautiful hikes and waterfalls waiting for you! You can choose to challenge yourself by hiking the Pitons themselves for an unparalleled view (definitely bring water!), or take a more leisurely jaunt to one of the stunning rainforest waterfalls, like Diamond Falls and its botanical gardens. These trails are a perfect way to escape the beach heat and discover the island’s incredible lush side.

If you love diving deep into the culture, St. Lucia is packed with unique, local experiences. You can, and should, get hands-on with history by visiting a working chocolate farm for a bean-to-bar experience. If you’re looking for a specific cultural event, the annual Jazz Festival is incredible, but here’s a true local secret: the islanders absolutely love old country music, meaning basically every local bar has an unforgettable country music night! While you’re there don’t forget to try an ice-cold Piton Lager.

All of these offerings—from high-energy hikes and chocolate making to quiet time on a perfect beach—make St. Lucia the ideal destination for the active traveler who loves a good adventure, the couple looking for a romantic backdrop defined by the Pitons, or anyone who wants an island getaway that feels authentic and full of unexpected local cheer.

Need to know
An important logistical point to note: there are some seriously treacherous, winding, bumpy roads on the island, and they are not for the faint of heart (or the vacation-minded driver). I strongly recommend avoiding a rental car and relying entirely on professional, hired local drivers instead. They know the roads, and you can actually relax and enjoy the incredible scenery without stress! Or alternatively, take a helicopter ride straight to Jade Mountain Resort from the hotel, and avoid roads all together.
While the whole island is a joy to explore, the west side, right where those spectacular Pitons stand guard, is a wonderful place to base yourself. You’ll be close to the best views and most of the incredible activities I mentioned. If you’re more interested in shopping and nightlife, visiting Castries on the north side of the island should be on your itinerary! Finally, you simply cannot leave without indulging in the island’s seafood. The fresh, daily caught fish is a true delicacy and will easily be the freshest meal you have all year.
