Site Visit: 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge—Brooklyn’s Top Luxury Pick for Families
Curator’s statement

I recently spent time at the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, and honestly, there’s nothing else quite like it in this part of the city and it’s my top pick for families. Tucked right on Pier 1 in Brooklyn Bridge Park, it is a perfect balance of quiet luxury surrounded by greenery, waterfront paths, and the charm of Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. It’s the only hotel in Brooklyn that truly feels like a five-star sanctuary, and you might even spot a celebrity (be cool!). If you value modern luxury and grounded, sustainable design convenient to Manhattan, this is the hotel for you.

The 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge building was purpose-built for the 1 Hotels brand and boasts natural woods, living green walls, and thoughtful touches like filtered water in every room and zero single-use plastics. Every piece of furniture and artwork has a story (even the lobby check in desk was repurposed), and the whole space smells amazing—earthy and calming.

Lobby

The hotel has 195 guest rooms and 28 suites, and their design inspiration is from the urban waterfront and industrial history of the neighborhood. The vibe here is luxurious but not snobby, and I would particularly recommend it for families, as well as couples, bachelorette groups, or empty nesters.

There's space to hang out or work downstairs or grab a coffee and breakfast at their sunny restaurant Barbuto (I recommend the oatmilk latte and yogurt with fresh fruit). The heated rooftop pool is open year-round, and even though the deck was closed for the season, the sweeping views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline are spectacular. The rooms—most commonly one king or two doubles on the ninth floor—offer either DUMBO or bridge views. Every room features Bamford bath products, refillable water stations, and their “1 Less” bamboo tile—a clever initiative to sustainably discard any clothing items guests leave behind. This initiative is perfect if you are a chronic overpacker like me!

This is also a great option for families seeking a more relaxed New York stay. With Brooklyn Bridge Park, Jane’s Carousel, and local ice cream shops just steps away, the hotel’s setting makes exploring simple and fun. For families or friends traveling together, the spacious corner suites that can connect with a private hallway, or Bridge Suite with connecting room options, ensure everyone has privacy and room to unwind. The rooms have doors that slide open with a safety window set up (no balconies) for safety.

The “Starlit Sleepover” package allows for a playful family night-in—complete with a tent set-up, a galaxy star-projector to light up the night, freshly baked cookies and milk, and popcorn with candy, along with an in-room movie to enjoy together.

“Starlit Sleepover” Package—includes tent set up, galaxy projector, milk and cookies, popcorn, candy, and a movie.

Family programming such as movie nights and holiday cookie decorating workshops—along with a rooftop pool supervised by a lifeguard, keep kids and teens entertained. At Barbuto Brooklyn, highchairs and kid-friendly dishes like Pasta Bambini make dining easy. The walkways and doorways are also wide—perfect for stroller accessibility.

The 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is the only high-end, design-forward, and genuinely committed to sustainability property in the area and is right on the waterfront, giving you easy access to ferries, subways, and buses on the other side. If you are trying to get to Manhattan, definitely take the ferry, which is right downstairs—it’s the fastest, most scenic way. You might even spot a celebrity in the lobby or restaurant—with studios moving to Brooklyn, it’s become the go-to for performers at Barclays Center and other high-profile guests.

Need to know

  • Book directly with me, especially if you need multiple or connecting rooms—availability is tight year-round!

  • Pets are warmly welcomed at the hotel—no extra fees, and they’re even treated to a special welcome amenity, in-room essentials, and a concierge team ready with pet-friendly neighborhood tips.

  • Guests can explore the city sustainably in one of the hotel’s fully electric Audi Q6 e-trons.

  • There is also the beautiful Haybarn spa with Bamford products, and a 24-hour gym outfitted with Peloton bikes, treads, and top-tier strength equipment.

  • For those planning gatherings, the property also offers over 20,000 square feet of discreet event space, including two ballrooms and flexible breakout rooms—perfect for anything from intimate celebrations to full-scale events.
