From Galveston to Roatán and Belize on Princess Cruises
Curator’s statement

For those seeking to explore beyond the standard run to the Yucatán Peninsula from Galveston, Princess Cruises offers four unique itineraries that visit Roatán and Belize. While my journey was a 7-day cruise, they currently offer 8, 10 or 11 days aboard the stunning Regal Princess®, which features 19 decks and 1,780 guest cabins. The ship is packed with amenities. There are four pools, eight hot tubs, numerous bars and restaurants, showrooms, lounges, a spa, a fitness center and an adults-only area called The Sanctuary. One of the ship's highlights is the SeaWalk®, a glass-floor walkway that extends beyond the ship's edge, offering breathtaking views.

The true appeal of these sailings lies in the unique locations and excursions available. I highly recommend taking a glass-bottomed boat tour or engaging in scuba diving or snorkeling while in Roatán, Honduras. It lies on the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world, surpassed only by the Great Barrier Reef in Australia! We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the underwater beauty from the comfort and safety of our boat.

In Belize, you can visit remarkable Mayan ruins such as Altun Ha or Xunantunich. Climbing to the top of Xunantunich provided a spectacular view of the expansive jungle. If time permits (and if you're feeling adventurous!), I highly recommend the thrilling experience of Cave Tubing through underground rivers.

Sailing for 1–2 weeks provides ample opportunity to unwind and relax. I appreciated the abundance of entertainment options on board, ensuring I never felt rushed. However, I would advise future travelers to be prepared for potential motion sickness, as the waters between Roatán and Belize can be a bit choppy.

Overall, this journey perfectly balanced relaxation and adventure!

Marine Life

Need to know

Visiting Central America is such a delight, thanks to its warm weather that’s enjoyable all year round! If you’re looking for a lively vibe, the high season from mid-December to April is bustling with people and activities, though you might notice higher prices during this time. On the flip side, the low season from July to September can be pretty toasty, and there’s a bit more chance of rain and hurricanes since it coincides with hurricane season from June to November.

For the best experience, consider planning your trip in February or March. These months are perfect for enjoying the dry weather and lower humidity! Here’s a quick look at the seasons:

  • High Season: Mid-December to April

  • Shoulder Season May to June, October to November

  • Low Season: July to September, known for the heat and some rain

If you’re thinking about a cruise, it really depends on your interests! Mid-December to March is highly desirable, but April and October are also fantastic for birdwatching. The months of May, June and November typically bring lovely weather, fewer crowds and great deals. Even though July to September can be warm and a bit rainy, July boasts the fun-filled Belize Lobster Festival, and August and September are ideal for exploring the rainforest!

Whenever you decide to go, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing adventure in Roatán and Belize! Enjoy every moment!
