Curator’s statement
Botswana offers one of the most exclusive and immersive safari experiences in Africa, and the Okavango Delta is at its heart. This journey was less about chasing constant movement and more about slowing down, observing, and connecting deeply with the landscape. The balance of water-based exploration, abundant wildlife, and refined hospitality created a safari that felt elegant, intentional, and quietly extraordinary. It’s an ideal destination for travelers seeking privacy, depth, and a true sense of place.

Belmond Eagle Island Lodge provided a serene and beautifully curated base in the Okavango Delta. Surrounded by winding waterways and lush vegetation, the lodge felt peaceful and immersive, offering a very different safari rhythm compared to East Africa. Water-based activities such as mokoro excursions and boat safaris revealed wildlife from a unique perspective, while traditional game drives complemented the experience on land.
The lodge itself was refined and understated, with thoughtful service and spaces designed to encourage relaxation between activities. Afternoons often felt unhurried—a rare luxury—allowing time to absorb the sounds and stillness of the delta. Evenings were calm and intimate, reinforcing the sense that this was a place to slow down and truly disconnect.
Ideal for: Travelers who value privacy, natural beauty, and a quieter, more atmospheric safari experience.

Need to know
Botswana is about quality over quantity: Sightings may feel less dense than in parts of East Africa, but encounters are more intimate and meaningful.
Water activities are a highlight: Mokoro and boat safaris offer a perspective that is both peaceful and deeply immersive—especially appealing to repeat safari travelers.
Season matters: The delta changes dramatically throughout the year, so timing should be matched carefully to a traveler’s interests and expectations.
Expert planning is essential: Charter flights, camp sequencing, and seasonal considerations make working with an experienced advisor especially valuable in Botswana.
