Set amidst the dramatic natural beauty of British Columbia, Fawn Bluff feels intentionally connected to its surroundings. Rather than competing with the landscape, the property embraces it. The architecture, design, and guest experience are all thoughtfully crafted to create a strong sense of place, allowing guests to slow down and immerse themselves in the environment. It’s truly one of the most remarkable experiences I’ve ever had while traveling.

What makes Fawn Bluff particularly special is that it combines the intimacy of a private luxury residence with the service and programming of a world-class resort. The five-bedroom Main Lodge comfortably accommodates up to ten adults and four children, thanks to two thoughtfully designed family suites that each include a bunk room. A separate Lake House adds space for an additional two adults and two children. Because of this unique setup, Fawn Bluff is especially well-suited for multi-generational family gatherings, milestone celebrations, corporate retreats, or groups of five to six couples who want to travel together without sacrificing privacy, comfort, or personalized service.

Fawn Bluff's main lodge has several unique spaces to enjoy time together.

One of the aspects that impressed me most was the property’s commitment to sustainability. Environmental stewardship isn’t simply a marketing talking point, but instead is woven into the guest experience and operational philosophy. From thoughtful land management practices to efforts focused on minimizing environmental impact, Fawn Bluff demonstrates that luxury and sustainability can coexist without compromise.

Equally noteworthy is the property’s commitment to honoring and supporting the Indigenous Homalco First Nation that has called this region home for generations. Fawn Bluff has taken meaningful steps to acknowledge the cultural significance of the land and foster relationships with the Homalco community. Rather than treating local culture as an attraction, the property approaches these partnerships with respect and intentionality, helping guests gain a deeper appreciation for the history and heritage of the area.

The culinary program is another highlight. Meals showcase the bounty of the Pacific Northwest, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients and local sourcing whenever possible. Each dining experience felt connected to the region, allowing guests to literally taste the surrounding landscape (including unexpected ingredients such as fermented pine cone that reflect the region’s wild landscape and culinary traditions). The cuisine strikes a balance between elevated and approachable, complementing the property’s overall philosophy of understated luxury.

Every meal is prepared by globally renowned chefs. Even breakfast was an unbelievable work of art.

There are "once in a lifetime" moments, and then there's taking a helicopter to the base of a glacier to enjoy fondue and chilled rosé.

For travelers who enjoy active experiences, Fawn Bluff offers an impressive variety of excursions. Whether you’re taking a helicopter to the top of a glacier, bear viewing with local guides, or paddle boarding alongside a convocation of eagles, the experiences feel curated rather than manufactured, encouraging authentic connections with the natural environment and local community.

What ultimately sets Fawn Bluff apart is its ability to deliver luxury that feels meaningful. The accommodations are beautiful, the food is memorable, and the experiences are exceptional. But it is the property’s commitment to sustainability, cultural stewardship, and connection to place that leaves the strongest impression.

For travelers seeking more than just a beautiful hotel, Fawn Bluff offers something increasingly valuable: an opportunity to experience a destination thoughtfully, responsibly, and authentically.

Best for: Multi-generational families, milestone celebrations, executive retreats, wildlife enthusiasts, and groups seeking an exclusive-use luxury experience with meaningful access to British Columbia’s wilderness and Indigenous culture.

For slower days at the lodge, the lakeside jacuzzi and sauna await! Even in the colder months, it's worth taking a plunge into the lake in-between sauna sessions.

Need to know

One thing travelers should know before arriving is that the weather is part of the experience. Even during the summer months, British Columbia’s coastal wilderness can be cool, misty, and unpredictable. Pack layers, a waterproof jacket, and an open mind. While many travelers dream of bluebird skies, some of my favorite moments at Fawn Bluff happened when low clouds hung over the mountains or rain rolled across the water. The ever-changing conditions are part of what makes this region feel so wild and authentic.

I’dit’s also strongly encourage guests to engage with the Fawn Bluff team well before arrival. The property excels at personalization, and the more they know about your interests, dietary preferences, activity level, and travel style, the better they can curate your stay. Whether it's stocking the kitchen with your favorite snacks and beverages, tailoring menus to your tastes, arranging private guides, or building a custom itinerary of excursions, the advance planning process is what transforms a great stay into an unforgettable one.
