Inside Grand Hyatt Kaua’i: The Resort I Recommend Again and Again
Curator’s statement

Some resorts excel in one area, but Grand Hyatt Kaua’i stands out because it does nearly everything exceptionally well. During my site visit in February 2026, I was struck by the property’s beautiful setting, extensive amenities, and ability to appeal to a wide range of travelers without losing its authentic Hawaiian character. Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, family vacation, or milestone celebration, the resort offers the perfect balance of relaxation, adventure, and sense of place. It’s easy to see why Grand Hyatt Kaua’i continues to be one of the most iconic resorts on the Garden Isle.

Grand Hyatt Kaua’i is one of those rare resorts that I can confidently recommend to a wide range of travelers. Located on Kaua’i’s sunny South Shore in Poipu, the resort sits on over 50 acres of beautifully landscaped oceanfront grounds and offers an experience that feels distinctly Hawaiian. While many luxury resorts cater primarily to either couples or families, Grand Hyatt Kaua’i successfully appeals to both. During my site visit, I was impressed by how seamlessly the property combines upscale amenities with a relaxed island atmosphere.

One of the resort’s biggest strengths is its incredible pool complex, which remains one of the best in Hawai’i. Guests can spend entire days exploring the winding lazy river, multi-level pools, waterfalls, and secluded lounging areas. For families, the pools are a major highlight, while couples can enjoy quieter spaces, oceanfront walking paths, and the adults-only serenity of the nearby Anara Spa. The resort’s beachfront location also provides easy access to some of Kaua’i’s most beautiful scenery, with dramatic cliffs, tropical gardens, and stunning sunset views just steps away.

Adults-only pool

I especially recommend Grand Hyatt Kaua’i for first-time visitors to the island. Its central South Shore location makes it an excellent base for exploring many of Kaua’i’s top attractions, including Waimea Canyon, Poipu Beach, the Wailua River, and the North Shore communities of Hanalei and Princeville. Travelers who prefer a balance of adventure and relaxation will appreciate being able to spend the morning hiking or sightseeing before returning to the resort for an afternoon by the pool or a sunset dinner overlooking the Pacific.

The accommodations are spacious and comfortable, but when helping clients select rooms, I often encourage them to consider an ocean view category if their budget allows. The views add another layer to the experience and allow guests to fully appreciate the property’s exceptional setting. For honeymooners and couples celebrating special occasions, I typically recommend higher room categories or suites that provide additional space and enhanced views.

Anara Spa

What ultimately makes Grand Hyatt Kaua’i stand out is that it delivers an exceptional overall resort experience without requiring guests to compromise. Families, honeymooners, multi-generational groups, and active travelers can all find something to love here. After touring many of Hawai’i’s luxury resorts, Grand Hyatt Kaua’i remains one of the properties I feel most confident recommending because it consistently provides outstanding value, extensive amenities, and a genuine sense of place that captures the spirit of Kaua’i.

Need to know

Kaua’i is known as the Garden Isle for its lush landscapes, dramatic cliffs, and tropical beauty, but it is also the wettest of the major Hawaiian Islands. Fortunately, Grand Hyatt Kaua’i is located on the island’s sunny South Shore, which generally enjoys drier weather and more consistent sunshine throughout the year. I highly recommend renting a car during your stay, as many of Kaua’i’s most memorable experiences are found beyond the resort. Waimea Canyon, Koke’e State Park, Hanalei, Secret Falls, and the island’s numerous scenic lookouts are all well worth exploring.

While the resort offers enough amenities to fill several days, be sure to dedicate time to experiencing the island itself. I recommend planning at least one full day for Waimea Canyon and another day exploring the North Shore. Dining reservations, particularly for sunset dinners and popular local restaurants in Poipu and Koloa, should be made in advance whenever possible. For travelers celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or special occasion, upgrading to an ocean-view room category can significantly enhance the experience and is often one of the best splurges at the property.

Because Grand Hyatt Kaua’i remains one of the most popular resorts on the island, booking early is the best way to secure preferred room categories and take advantage of any available promotions or advisor amenities. Whether you’re visiting for a romantic getaway, family vacation, or milestone celebration, the combination of the resort’s beautiful setting and Kaua’i’s incredible natural landscapes creates an unforgettable Hawaiian experience.
