Perched dramatically above Mononaftis Bay near Agia Pelagia in Crete, Acro Suites is an adults-only wellness resort that blends contemporary design with holistic living. The name “Acro"—from the Greek "akron," meaning edge—reflects both its striking cliffside setting and its philosophy of balance. With 49 suites and villas crafted from natural stone and wood in calming neutral tones, the resort feels organic to its surroundings. Many accommodations come with private infinity pools overlooking the Aegean, and no room looks directly into another, ensuring privacy and uninterrupted views. While three nights is the average stay, four nights is highly recommended—giving guests time to fully enjoy the resort and still take a day to explore Heraklion or the Palace of Knossos.

Each suite category has its own personality: the Wave XL offers sea views, a garden, and private pool, while the Loft Suite features an elevated living space with sweeping sea views—one even offers sunset views. The most sought-after, however, are the Cave Suites, instantly recognizable on Instagram for their heated grotto pools and ocean-facing tubs. With only seven in total, these Cave Suites are among the hardest to secure and worth booking far in advance.

Wellness is central to the Acro experience. The Bath House is a Byzantine-inspired sanctuary with a hammam, Finnish sauna, cold plunge pool, and treatment rooms, and guests can book three- or five-day wellness packages. Yoga plays a starring role, with a dedicated shala hosting multiple daily classes, most running 90 minutes, alongside sound healing sessions. Two gyms—one open 24/7 and another set in a nest-like structure—add to the focus on health, while tennis and paddle courts are available for those looking to stay active.

Dining continues the wellness theme. Cremnos, the main restaurant, offers farm-to-table Cretan cuisine made with local and seasonal ingredients, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests enjoy poolside snacks, drinks, and light bites throughout the day, or cocktails in the bar and lounge with wide views of the sea and neighboring Dia island. Private dining is available at Eleonas, which also hosts wine and olive oil tastings. For a change of pace, Acro’s sister property Seaside Resort is home to Umi, a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant where the sunset dinners are not to be missed.

Travelers should know that Acro is designed for tranquility rather than nightlife—it’s best suited to couples and wellness-minded guests seeking peace and a sense of retreat. The cliffside location is breathtaking but can feel remote, so guests should be comfortable with winding roads and a certain level of seclusion. Because the resort is boutique, dining options are more curated than expansive, and spa or yoga slots often book up quickly during high season. The air-conditioning in some rooms can feel light in peak summer heat, so those sensitive to warm nights may want to confirm details when booking. These trade-offs are minor compared to the overall experience: sophisticated design, world-class wellness offerings, and one of the most photogenic settings in Crete.

Acro Suites is ideal for travelers who want to feel tucked away in a dramatic natural setting while immersing themselves in health, design, and local culture—an elevated retreat where every detail, from the architecture to the food, encourages balance and calm.

Need to know

  • Acro Suites is adults-only (no guests under 16), designed for couples and wellness-focused travelers.

  • Many suites have private pools (most unheated), but the Instagram-famous Cave Suites are limited—only seven total—so they book out fast.

  • The property emphasizes wellness and tranquility over nightlife; it’s not a party resort.

  • The location is cliffside and secluded: gorgeous for views and quiet, but travelers should be comfortable with winding roads and distance from a traditional village center.

  • Pre-book spa treatments and yoga classes if traveling in high season, as spaces fill quickly.
