Casa Velas is the hacienda-style, adults-only, boutique oasis boasting amazing food and pampering that has to be experienced to be believed. The vibe is exclusive and serene with lifestyle offerings targeted to increase the zen in your mind, spirit, and soul. The food is fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and transports you to a peace only few truly know. You want the place where you’ll lay your head to lull you into a deep and comforting sleep; these rooms wrap you in a cocoon of coziness that makes the soundtrack of your snoring silence and tranquility.

My favorite parts of the resort were the welcome experience complete with a drink and mini aromatherapy massage; the restaurant with views of the zen garden and pool deck (complete with swim-up bar!); and the private plunge pool that acted like a babbling brook on the balcony of my suite. The staff remembered me by name and went above and beyond to ensure my stay reflected the care and concern of a close family member and valued guest. The highlight of this stay? Dinner at the private beach club right on the sand, Tau, at sunset coupled with delightful drinks, a private menu, and the best view of Puerto Vallarta’s city skyline and mountain vistas.

Velas Vallarta

Velas Vallarta took my breath away upon arrival with its vast lobby and signage welcoming me, personally, to my visit at the property. Originally intended to be beachfront condominiums, this all-inclusive, family-forward property boasts massive rooms with family-style layouts that include kitchenettes, multiple bathrooms (select suites), and balconies that invite the entire family to recline and soak in the sun with scents of bougainvillea floating through the air. Standing on the balcony of any suite, you are instantly soothed by the sound of ocean waves and get just enough sun to reset your spirit to one of wholeness. Walking through and greeting the on-site peacocks (!) I felt like I was in a lush tropical forest.

The property is peppered with tropical greenery throughout, interwoven with the walkways from one building to the next. You feel as though each breath you take is more restorative than the last. The lazy river through the center of the property subtly beckons you (and your young people!) toward the kid’s club, large pool, and finally the beach. Picture this: white sand, inviting waves, and the scents of grilled seafood wafting through the air. This property also includes daily entertainment, activities, and oceanfront cabanas for massages like no other.

This resort is for the families, but groups like bachelor/ette parties, girls trips, multi-generational family reunions, or social groups could also do well here.

Pro tip: See if you can find the echo chamber in the lobby for a fun activity with your kids.

The resort that made me want to ditch my family and stay forever (not really) in the lap of luxury? Grand Velas Nayarit. Stepping out of our private shuttle, the driver handed me off into the warm embrace of Nayarit’s beautiful, expansive, and ocean-facing lobby. You haven’t experienced true all-inclusive luxury until you’ve stayed at this AAA 5-diamond resort! This is the resort you pick when everyone in your crew needs a white-gloved experience.

Velas’ unmistakably vibrant bougainvillea accents every balcony of this U-shaped property, ensuring that guests will step out to drink in their personalized view of the three-level infinity pool, lush green, manicured grounds, and a mix of mountain and ocean views that takes your breath away at sunrise or sunset. These suites can only be described as enormous—you have more room than you know what to do with!

A Forbes Travel Guide resort complete with a kid’s and teens’ club, spa, six specialty restaurants, cafe, and nightclub, you will have almost no reason to leave this property as everything you can reasonably imagine is available to you.

I did my fair share of exhaling here, and that was before I had dinner with endless views of the ocean at the beachfront restaurant, or sat by the infinity pool with some of the best grilled octopus and ceviche I’ve ever eaten. Every aspect of this property makes it a showstopper. There aren’t enough adjectives to properly describe the seemingly sacred experience of waking up at the luxurious property. The best parts of this stay for me were sunset cocktails in the pillared beach-facing courtyard, fresh coconut by the infinity pool with the freshly prepared ceviche and poolside service, and the meals—any one of them—10/10, no notes!

The Mexico that fills headlines is not the Mexico you will encounter here. What you will find instead is a destination that greets you with warmth, feeds you with intention, and protects you with pride because your experience is not just their business, it is their honor. The staff and community exude a pride in PVR that is sewn into the very fabric of the city.

Like any world-class destination, Puerto Vallarta has not been immune to headlines that give even the most seasoned traveler pause. However, context is everything. Puerto Vallarta and the greater Banderas Bay region have consistently maintained a reputation as one of Mexico’s safest and most welcoming destinations, drawing millions of international visitors annually without incident. The resort corridors, tourist zones, and luxury properties—including the exceptional Velas Resorts—operate within environments of rigorous private security, professional staffing, and deep community investment that create a seamless bubble of safety and serenity. My stay here in April 2026 was no deviation from this reputation. There was no question that travelers here were safe, protected, and encouraged to participate in the daily flow of life in the city.
