Curator’s statement
The Westin Kierland Resort and Spa is one of those places that just feels easy the second you arrive. It has that perfect mix of fun and relaxation, whether you’re by the pool, walking over to Kierland Commons, or just enjoying the desert views. I love how it works for so many types of trips, families, couples, or even a staycation or quick getaway. It’s one of those stays that feels laid-back but still really well done.

This is one of those resorts that just makes everything feel easy. From the second you arrive, you realize you don’t have to overthink anything, it’s all right there, and it’s designed to be fun, relaxed, and really enjoyable.

The energy here is different from some of the more secluded desert resorts. It’s lively in a good way, there’s always something going on, and it works so well whether you’re traveling with family, friends, or just looking for a quick staycation.

The rooms are comfortable and easy, exactly what you want after a full day outside. It’s one of those places where you’re not rushing back to your room, but when you do, it feels cozy and relaxed.

The pool scene is a big part of what makes this resort so popular. The Adventure Water Park is such a draw, especially for families. You have the FlowRider where you can surf in the desert, a lazy river, a 110-foot waterslide, and plenty of space to spread out. If you want to elevate it a bit, the cabanas and Tommy Bahama “Relaxation Reef” private islands make it feel a little more special and easy for the day.

The lobby is actually a whole experience on its own. There are two tanks filled with desert reptiles, and at night it turns into a bit of a hot spot. I grabbed a drink at the bar and found myself just sitting there watching everything. People gathered around, the kids were fascinated, and it ended up being such a fun, unexpected part of the night.
If you’re into golf, this is a great option. The Westin Kierland Golf Club has 27 holes and is known for being a really fun, elevated golf experience without feeling too serious.

Evenings here are easy and fun. There’s live music at The Rim, which sets such a great tone, and the Scotch Library is a really unique experience with over 360 whiskey labels. Whether you’re really into it or just curious, it’s something different to do.
Dining on property is really easy and fits the vibe of the resort perfectly. Nellie Cashman’s Monday Club Café is your go-to for breakfast and casual meals, and it’s just consistently good. Deseo is a great option for dinner if you want something a little more elevated—go for the ceviche and something from the grill. The Rim is perfect for cocktails and small bites in the evening, especially with live music. And the Scotch Library is more of an experience—let them guide you through it.

Poolside dining is also really well done. The Hawaiian tuna poke is fresh, the Double Double Smash Burger is a favorite, and the Huli Huli chicken wings are so good. Pair it with the Saguaro Blossom spritz and you’re set for the afternoon.
What I love most is the location. You can walk right over to Kierland Commons, which makes everything feel so convenient. Coffee, shopping, dinner—it’s all right there without needing to get in the car.
This is one of those stays where you can do a lot or do nothing at all, and either way it works.

Need to know
Make spa and dinner reservations ahead of time, especially during busy seasons.
Plan anything outdoors for early morning or later in the day.
Pack a light layer—it cools off more than you expect.
Drink more water than you think you need—the dry heat sneaks up on you.
Don’t overschedule—leaving time to just relax here is part of the whole experience.
