Living the Dream at Kaua'i’s Most Luxe Hideaway
Curator’s statement

Kukuiʻula is my favorite place I’ve ever stayed in Hawai‘i—relaxing, luxurious, and completely unpretentious. It’s part private club, part rental retreat, and somehow still a hidden gem. Whether you’re traveling with kids, a partner, or just a golf club, this is the rare resort that exceeds expectations across the board. I’m already scheming how to get back.

Where to stay in Kauaʻi

Welcome to a Kauaʻi retreat that feels like it stepped out of a prestige TV show—but without the drama. The Lodge at Kukuiʻula is a luxury resort within a private club community, offering five-star amenities with a laid-back, low-key vibe. Though it’s part of a real estate development, 40 high-end villas are available to rent, and all guests enjoy full access to the private club's spa, pools, golf, restaurants, and farm. Kukuiʻula offers remarkable value for the experience.

Golfing at one of Hawaiʻi’s most scenic courses. Even as total amateurs, we felt completely welcome on this world-class course.

Free bikes make exploring the property even more fun. We rode to the farm, the beach, and just for the joy of it.

The spa is a standout—it is hands-down the most beautiful spa I’ve ever experienced, with open-air lava rock showers, a tranquil full-size adults-only pool, peaceful changing rooms, and an atmosphere that invites you to slow all the way down. Even as someone who tries to play it cool in luxury spaces, I couldn’t stop audibly gasping at each new corner I turned.

The serene adults-only spa pool at Kukuiʻula. One of three pools on property—and rarely crowded, even in peak season.

Open-air lava rock shower at the spa. This is not a stock photo—it’s an actual shower I used. I’m still thinking about it.

There are three pools: one infinity-style adults-only pool, a zero-entry sand-bottom pool for families, and the third hidden at the spa, all beautifully maintained and never crowded.

Lounge chairs right in the water: peak vacation. One of the multiple pools, with sweeping ocean views and full food/drink service.

One of the most unique features is the on-site 10-acre farm. Guests can bike or stroll through the grounds, pick fruits and vegetables, and stop by “Da Farm Stand” to gather supplies. With three restaurants, a beach outfitter, daily fitness classes, tennis, and pickleball courts, you’re never without options—but it also never feels busy. Even the beach was a peaceful, shaded escape with calm water and soft sand.

Da Farm Stand: A charming stop for fresh produce from Kukui‘ula’s garden. Guests are welcome to harvest from the 10-acre upcountry farm, then swing by this stand to stock their villa.

The villas themselves are light-filled and beautifully designed, with gourmet kitchens, indoor-outdoor showers, and large lanais perfect for relaxing. Kukuiʻula balances luxury and ease better than anywhere I’ve stayed in Hawaiʻi. It’s ideal for families, couples, or solo travelers who want space to unwind, fresh local food, and world-class service—without the scene.

Our villa at the Lodge at Kukuiʻula, bathed in soft island light. Spacious, private, and surrounded by lush gardens—absolute heaven.

Our lanai: the perfect spot for breakfast, board games, or an afternoon nap. Every villa has one, and every one is private and peaceful.
