Relaxing at Family-Friendly & All-Inclusive Finest Playa Mujeres
Curator’s statement

This was our first international trip as a family with a toddler. We wanted something super easy and relaxing, so we decided on an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. After months and months of research, we decided to stay at Finest Playa Mujeres, and I must admit, I was spoiled by the customer service and attentiveness upon arrival and throughout the trip. It’s going to be hard to find another all-inclusive resort that will beat that kind of customer service.

Where to stay in Playa Mujeres

Our trip took place in April — to celebrate my husband’s birthday — and it was a great time to go because of the weather. It was hot, but not humid and there’s plenty of covered areas around the resort, including the cabanas on the beach.

We flew into Cancun, Mexico and we got free transportation provided by the resort to go to Playa Mujeres. The drive itself is about 45 minutes and the resort is highly gated and secured. A lot of people often ask about the safety of going to Cancun, but I can assure you that going to this resort will require you to go through at least two steel gates, which is highly secured and monitored at all times.

Once we arrived, we were greeted with refreshments and our luggage was sent to our rooms. Because our room level was Finest Club, we had a private check-in spot, which was nice as it was speedy and customer service was attentive.

We got our rooms right away, and all of my toddler's amenities were already in the room. They have all sorts of baby and toddler amenities, including baby monitors, hot water kettles, baby tubs, high chairs and a whole lot more. You just have to contact concierge prior and they will make note of it on your reservation.

We spent most of our time in our swim-up room. It was nice and quiet and we had it to ourselves as we didn’t see many guests arriving for the first couple of days. Building Five, next to the restaurant is the best if you’re interested in something more quiet and away from the busy pool.

Our favorite dining was at Brass Steakhouse, Shoji and Surf & Turf. The only restaurant you need a reservation for is the teppanyaki spot Shoji; we made a reservation upon arrival at the hotel and it was easy to secure the time we wanted. Our toddler eats early, so most evenings, we would have dinner at either 5 pm or 6 pm and there was no wait. The awesome thing about the resort is all of the menus are posted online and on the app. The app is great as it literally has everything you might need to know about the resort. Plus, the ice cream shop was a hit with my little one.

There’s a kids club and two separate kid water park areas. One area is for young toddlers and babies, and the other is for older kids. Because our toddler was only 20 months old, we just stayed with her in the kids club and watched her play. The kids club is nice and cool as it does have air conditioning. In the evening, there are activities for kids to participate in, so it made evenings eventful for the little ones.

There’s always something happening at night — including music, fiestas or casino night. This resort is very family-friendly. Every family I have seen comes here with strollers or wagons. It’s also very walkable as the resort is quite small.

Since we were part of Finest Club, we had separate beach access and they had free beach toys for the kids. We did not have any issues securing cabanas. We went in the morning as well as in the afternoon before dinner time. You can get drinks and snacks on the beach under the cabana and of course, the service is great.

I highly recommend Finest Playa Mujeres for families. If you are not traveling with kids, there is another section of the resort called Excellence, which is adults only. The restaurants are shared between the two sides, but if you want to be away from the families and kids, Excellence has an adults-only pool and beach access.

Need to know

It’s absolutely important to make sure you have an accurate credit card on file. Playa Mujeres charges your credit card 30 days before your trip. Because I had a new credit card and I didn’t actively pay attention to my emails, they were not able to reach me to update my credit card, hence my entire booking got canceled. I was not able to get the room I wanted, but I did upgrade to Finest Club — which I do not regret — and made two separate bookings to be sure I had accommodations during my whole intended stay. Customer service went above and beyond and was able to secure the swim-up room for my entire stay in the Finest Club level rooms. Definitely make sure to have your credit card updated with the resort and let your travel advisor know to help.
