Curator’s statement
JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa is such a beautiful desert escape. It’s surrounded by mountains, cacti, and those incredible Arizona sunsets. We were upgraded to a room with a stunning view overlooking the pool and mountains, and one morning we even spotted a small group of deer wandering by just outside. It was such a peaceful moment that really set the tone for how calm and restorative this resort feels.

We spent a relaxing afternoon by the pool after visiting the University of Arizona, and had a wonderful dinner at Primo, where the food and views were equally impressive. Thanks to the Fora perks, we received complimentary breakfast and a free dessert. I loved dessert at the end of the day snug in bed. I love the thoughtful touches that made the stay even more memorable.

The resort also features a beautiful golf course that winds through the desert hills, and as golfers, we couldn’t help but wish we’d had time to play a round. It looked like such a fun and scenic course, with mountain views from nearly every hole. Beyond golf, there’s plenty to do on-site, from hiking trails and mountain biking to stargazing in the clear desert sky. The spa is another highlight, offering treatments that draw inspiration from the surrounding desert landscape, and it’s definitely on my list for next time.
For those visiting Tucson to see college students, the resort is an ideal place to unwind after time on campus. Parents can relax by the pool, enjoy a spa treatment, or take in a round of golf while still being close enough to the University of Arizona for visits or game days. Tucson itself offers so many fun things to do, from catching a Wildcats basketball or football game, to exploring the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum or hiking in Sabino Canyon. The mix of culture, nature, and local charm makes it a great destination year-round.

When it comes to dining, there’s no shortage of excellent options in Tucson. In addition to Primo at the resort, El Charro Café is a must-visit for authentic Sonoran-style Mexican food, and Vivace is perfect for upscale Italian. The Parish is another local favorite with a creative Southern twist, and BOCA Tacos y Tequila has an energetic vibe and some of the best tacos in town. Whether you’re here to relax, visit students, or explore the desert, JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa makes the perfect home base for experiencing the best of Tucson.
