Curator’s statement
While Sydney and Melbourne typically get the spotlight, Brisbane is buzzing. With the 2032 Olympics ahead, the city is investing in culture, dining, and green spaces. New nonstops from LAX and SFO make it an easy hop for Americans, and it’s a natural launchpad for the Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays, and Daintree.

The W Brisbane offers a cheeky design, skyline sunsets, a rooftop pool—and yes, a chocolate martini showed up at my door (ask me about perks).
At a glance
Vibe: Bold, playful, a little flirty—classic W energy with a Queensland accent.
Location: CBD riverfront—minutes to South Bank, QAGOMA, ferries, boutiques, and buzzy dining spots.
Best for: Design lovers, spa seekers, pool loungers, art hoppers, and anyone who likes luxury with personality.
Signature moment: A surprise “Caffeine O’Clock” chocolate martini amenity after my river loop and botanical gardens walk.

First impressions: Big design
You enter at street level, then head up to the main lobby—a moody space with curvy lines and ambient lighting. Staff are welcoming and quick with local tips. It’s glam without the side-eye.
The room: High-floor river views and playful touches
Upgrade win: I landed on the 29th floor with sweeping Brisbane River and South Bank vistas—bridges and QAGOMA glowing at night (ask me about perks!).
Look and feel: Tropical pops of color, curved edges, great lighting in the bathroom, and a mini-bar that is easy to raid.
Amenity moment: The in-room chocolate martini (“Caffeine O’Clock”) felt very on-brand—cheeky, indulgent, and well-timed, post-hike.
Fora tip: Ask for a high-floor river view. The floor-to-ceiling windows make sunrise (and bridge lights) truly cinematic.

Eat and drink: From breakfast feasts to golden hour spritzes
Breakfast: Generous spread at the buffet, hotel restaurant—think fresh, flavorful, and easy to make into a brunch if you aren’t into big breakfasts.
WET Deck Bar: Rooftop views and daily “Unwind” happy hour (3–6 pm). Golden Hour here is a must—cocktail in hand, city sparkling.
Room sips: That surprise martini won my heart, but the bar team downstairs can also craft something bespoke if you ask.
Spa and pool: Reset, recharge, repeat
AWAY Spa: Light-filled, modern, and genuinely therapeutic. My therapist tailored a deep, firm massage to my long-flight legs with essential oils and precision. I spent time in the therapeutic mineral baths!
WET Pool: Open 24/7 (yes!). Sleek, social, and perfect for capturing that insta shot—with skyline views, daybeds, and a steady flow of drinks.
Location, location, location
CBD on the river: Walk out and you’re steps from the riverwalk, ferries, and Queen Street Mall.
Culture across the bridge: QAGOMA and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre are a stroll away.
Howard Smith Wharves: Under the Story Bridge, this riverside precinct is packed with restaurants and bars—great for a progressive dinner. We enjoyed sitting on the deck with drinks and nibbles.
My jet-lag cure: A scenic river loop walk: W Brisbane → along the river to New Farm → back via South Bank. Flat, easy, and gorgeous.
Fora tips: Grab a day pass for the CityCat ferry. It doubles as a DIY sightseeing cruise. Head over to the free Queensland Art Gallery, a museum with two buildings full of modern and contemporary Australian art. Pre-book your spa time as slots go fast!
